Hey doods--

New dood here from San Antonio. I need a new bed for a 80 model 2wd. What years would coincide with it? Someone told me from 76-80, the truck was the same. Honestly, i never paid that much attention to it, but i've had my LUV for 14 years, and figured i should do something with it. It's just sitting in the back yard of my folks house at the moment.
Is there a company that manufactures beds for LUVS, (i ran across one that made Stepside beds some years ago), or am i better off looking in salvage yards? Any help would be great!!

Just look around the site and you'll find all kinds of info.
There is a guy up in Amarillo that has a Luv junk yard. Someone here has his # I'm sure. He's not on this site anymore, that's a whole other story. He does have lots of parts though. If you can find his # you could call him for price and availability. Some people here have had trouble with him and some not. Your in Tx. and he is the first that comes to mind.

Beds are pretty much identical from 75-80. The only difference is the number of hooks on the bed rail and some changes to the gas filler neck. 75-76 have 4 hooks per side with 3 on the tailgate, later has 3 per side with 2 on the gate. The filler neck is not a major change, but some caps will only fit earlier years or vice versa. I think that changed in 78, but I'm not certain.

I'd think your best bet is to look at salvage yards. There is a place in Taiwan that advertises they make a replacement bed, but I've never heard of anyone actually buying anything from them. If you have a source for new stepside beds, please post it. There are a lot of folks around here that would be interested in that. You might find a great deal on a fleetside bed if someone buys themselves a new stepside.

Make sure you disconnect the all the hoses leading to the gas tank from the bed before you take it off, and don't forget the wiring harness connector. If you are going to replace everything just like it is, mark those hoses leading to the expansion chamber in the bed. There is not a very good reference that says which goes where.

Yesterday while driving not too far from the house, i saw a blue LUV sitting out in some field. Maybe 500ft from the road sitting in a clump of shrubs. Not too sure what year it is, but i'm guessing it's series 6 or higher. Gonna swing by there and see if there are any plans for it.

that was my question about the bed. I thought i saw an ad in the back of either Truckink' or Minitruckin' about a company that sold complete stepside beds....I thought it was Choo Choo Customs....not sure
