for those who have installed a rev kit can they be put in without removing the heads? i know the intake and push rods have to come out but the only way i`ve seen people install them is with the heads off.
 thanks

Are you talking about replacing the valve springs for some better ones? If you are I have seen the tools at my school to change them without removing the heads. Its somekind of hook thing that clamps the spring at the bottom and pulls the top down to it and then there is a thing that screws into the sparkplug hole and hook it up to the air compresser to keep the valves up in place.

no a rev kit is a spring kit with aluminum cups and a plate that gets sandwiched between the heads and lifters the cups fit on top of the lifters. the springs sit on top of those and the plate has a recessed area for the springs goes under the head. it helps control valve float. unfortunately when i freshened up my engine a few months back i went ahead and put new springs on the heads. the ones the manufacture suggested but now it gets into valve float at 6500. some companies sell this with there roller cam kits. i thought about pulling the heads and going back to my old springs but my head gaskets are 75 bucks a piece felpro lockwires. not to mention the hassle of pulling the heads while in the truck.
yea i know the spring compressor your talking about those are to weak for most roller cam springs. they are made for stock type spring pressure.
well maybe i`ll just start shifting at 6000 it will probably make the motor live a longer life
if you go to the photo gallery and look at bens pics he has a shot of his motor with the intake off it`s hard to see but he has rev kit on that motor

Do you know what stock springs float the valves at? Because on my engine around 5000 rpms it cuts out. I dont know what the problem is. I just replaced the stock fuel pump and got a better fuel pump (holley black regulated at 5psi) and that helped a lot but it still cuts out at 5k. I was wondering if its floating it or not?

Racelife, it can be done, but it's not easy, and your going to scratch the piss out of the upper spring seat bars. I've done it twice. The easiest ways is to install the bar with about 2 springs and then install the rest of the springs one at a time. I set the bottom of the spring on the lifter and then I use a heavy duty puddy knife to make a kinda ramp to slide the top of the spring under the plate. It's also easier if the lifter isn't on a lobe so you might have to bump the motor over a couple times.

right on thanks for the info ben I wasn`t sure it could be done or not. I just passed up a used kit at the swapmeet for 30 bucks the other day because i was unsure if I could get it in there.
