Your best primer is gonna be Sikkens/Lezonal 3.8...incredible build and fill quality, and sands well
As for stripping, I'd say forget that and go with sanding/blasting, especially if you're doing a complete job and not just a partial

Sandblasting works, but if you do your self can be very messy.
I sanded my luv. I started off with a heavy grit like 100
and then switched over to a medium grit like 220 or 240.
Depending how much you want to spend, you could just use spray cans.
I actually have a spray gun. Instead of basic primer, I used a hardener
which lasts a lot longer and protects the metal from rusting versus regular primter. The downside of hardner, if you dont paint it within 48 hours,
you would have to sand it all of again to do a paintjob.

Heres a pic after I used the hardner.

your best bet will probly just be to get a DA sander. Chemical strippers can be messey and i doubt they sell the good stuff in parts store. I know when aircraft come in for paint we cant chemically stip em becouse of the eco-nazis so we just sand em down by hand. As long as you get through the clear coat youll be good to go, just dont forget to wipe it down whith alcahol or acitone.

If it was me I'd probably sand too...it's cheaper, cleaner, and actually isnt that bad, especially on a rig as small as a LUV. A DA would be the way to go if you've got an air supply, but be careful not to get things too hot while using it...low speed and light pressure, otherwise you'll warp things. Start with 80 and work your way up until you get to about 280. Once it's primed be sure to guidecoat it...just mist it over with some cheap rattlecan paint and sand with 320 dry until all the guidecoat is gone. This levels your surface. Then you can wetsand with 500 to elinimate the scratches from the 320 grit. Then you're ready for base and clear coats, unless you plan on also using a sealer, a good idea if you've sanded through to bare metal in many areas. If you do end up blasting or sanding most of the parts down to bare metal, be sure to use a self-etching primer as your bottom coat. Good luck!

go to Sherwin Williams auto paint store for "Aircraft Stripper" They sell it at Home Depot but not sure how potent it is....I'll be where your at soon....keep us informed. CHemical strippers are not as messy as DA'ing the body especially if it is in your garage.....you'll be sweeping for weeks.......
