Post subject: GAS IN THE OIL PAN
PostPosted: Tue Feb 01, 2005 6:31 pm
WHEN WE TOOK THE OIL PAN OFF OF THE TRUCK MY DAD FOUND 1/2 A
GALLON OR BETTER OF GAS AND OVER 4 QUARTS OF OIL. MY SON WAS GIVEN THIS TRUCK FROM A FRIEND THAT USED THE TRUCK OUT ON HIS
PROPERTY. HE TOLD US THAT HE HAD OVER FILLED THE OIL ON PURPOSE SO AS NOT TO LET THE ENGINE FREEZE UP OVER THE WINTER
BECAUSE HE NEVER STORED IT INSIDE? WE ARE WANTING TO KNOW
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IF IT MAY HAVE DAMAGED ANY PARTS WITH ALL OF THAT OIL AND WHY WOULD THE GAS SHOW UP IN THE OIL PAN?

THANKS AGAIN

I would bet your head gasket and/or rings are bad. But whatever it is it will need work. I also dont think that the oil would cause it to freeze the engine as much as the water and antifreeze in it.

personally i dont think a little gas in the crank case is going to cause that big of a deal. 1.import blocks seem to be a little stronger than american engines. 2. in the industry i work in we see a lot of strange failures from engines windowing the block to easy stuff like fuel pumps leaking fuel into the crank case. or even engines running on as little as a 1/2 quart of oil. because idiots dont check they're oil or gauges. unless they ran it for a extended period of time on gas/oil its probably ok. but if you've already got the engine disassembled then check the crank shaft, cylinder walls, and camshaft for any scoring gouges or abnormal wear. any doubt replace it!
