Hey guys, a bunch of Isuzu offroad guys are trying to get Powertrax to reintroduce, or at lease manufacture a run of the Isuzu 10 bolt locker. We would then try to get them to R&D for a 12 bolt locker. I know that the Luv's had a 10 bolt Isuzu, and the 12 bolt Isuzu is an easy swap in that has disc brakes on it.

Are any of you guys interested in this? IF you are, we need to generate interest in it and know how many people are interested in this endeavor. You can let me know via eMail or PM, or on this post and I can keep you up to date on the information. I know that they will make them if we have 50, and possibly if we have 25.

Thanks
KJ

Great, this is going to help the overall cause of this thing. Are there any people that go offroading in the luv's? did they make it in a 4x4, or is it just a street rod vehicle now.

I am hoping to get enough interest to do the locker for the 12 bolt too. It will be good for offroaders and the swap into the Luv's with a 12 bolt will make a much stronger axle for the street.

Yep, quite a few guys here run their LUV 4X4's rough & ragged!

If the stock rear were wide enuff to work on my Stude, I'd be interested in this for sure. But its a little too narrow. Good luck.

Talking about the rear being too narrow, are you talking about the 10 bolt???? The 98 and up 12 bolts are a little wider, and alot of them have a LSD in them. They are a different ring gear and axle diameter as well as spline count as the original 12 bolt. Might be something to check into. I have seen them in salvage for $100.

Hmmm, I'll have to check into that. Thanx for the heads-up.

Hmmm wheeling? I think i'v done that before. I'm going to keep an eye on this but don't count me in yet. i'v got this hair brained idea of putting a 12 bolt from a '88 Trooper in the back of my Luv

A locker is a device that will "lock" the axles together so that both tires spin at the same speed. In an open differential, if one wheel starts to spin, the other wheel will do nothing to prevent it. In a limited slip, there is some clutch work inside that aids in the traction, but a locker basically forces the tires to go the same speed. This is hard on tires in corners, so the locker that I am talking about is an automatic one. It will release when you let off of the gas. There are several other types of lockers as well. SOme are engaged with air, or cables, or electrically.

Did that help any?????

I am not sure how much they will run. I am going to go out on a limb and say probably between $250 and $400. I think the original retail price was like $379, but of course no one sold them for full retail.

Well keep in mind, driving crazy fast with a locker is not all bad, unles you accellerate in a corner. THat is the only time that the wheels need to turn at different speeds. Straight line accelleration it keeps the wheels locked together and you get maximum traction.
