Anyone got the relay replacement part numbers for 72-80? These are those little special relays that are conveniently tucked under the right fender on the firewall.

i belive they are just standard relays.....one's a four prong w/load, hot, signal and ground....it's the fuel pump relay. and the other is the same with a fifth prong whish is a pass through......it is the resistor bypass,when you start the engine, the signal comes from the starter, to switch the relay, passing current to the coil while bypassing the resistor sending full voltage to the coil, the pass through prong goes to the balast resistor and powers the coil during normal operation.

The four prong is the one that has gone out. We traced that the relay was not passing through the voltages to the Coil.

I believe the extreme cold and the shock of starting it and running it has killed it (It's 30 this year) so it would not suprise me that that is the reason she blew out.

I will check the autoparts place on the way home tommorow and see if I can find one.

I believe the 4 prong one can be replaced by any standard relay, assuming you figure out the wiring correctly. I picked up some standard Bosch type (describes the plug style) relays for less than a buck each a while back at http://www.partsexpress.com to use in a security system setup. Two of the wires should go to the relay coil, and the other two should go to the switched connectors.

I'll check the relays I have to see what their duty cycle is. I'm not sure whether that relay runs all the time or not either. If it does, you really should use a relay designed to run 100% of the time.

Shouldnt the back of the box have the schema of the relay? If it does then it should not be a problem attempting to innovate a fix.
