As some of you know, I've put a 3" body lift on my truck recently, and my backyard mechanic of a boss kinda hacked my shifter hole for the t-case a little more than he might've had too. I'm having all sorts of trouble getting a shift boot that will cover the whole, any ideas?

P.S. As always, I'm working on a serious nickel budget.

I used the sleeve of an old Levi demin jacket for my t-case shifter boot. Turn it inside out, wire it to the shifter, flop it down over the wire. For the bottom, I used the chrome ring from another boot I had. I also packed the inside with the fleece lining from the same old jacket. Turned out looking pretty good and went right with the blue interior.

It might not work so well depending on how hacked up things are, but hope it gives you some ideas at least.

That's an interesting idea.I don't have a denim jacket, but I do have an old nasty suede one. (don't where nice suede jacket off-roading, you can't get them clean).

If you are looking for waterproof you could do something with a tire inner tube or a sheet of rubber. Get a smallish sized tube and use basically the same theory as the coat sleeve to hook it on. Another idea for attachment instead of wire would be a hose clamp.

On mine I also had what was left of a boot under things. It was facing down and held my packing in from the bottom. The result was really not water proof, but certainly cut the noise level down a lot.

I've got an old intertube we used to use for sledding, but it popped this year, I bet that would do the trick.
