Okay I know I can't be the only here who knows this, but Luvs have never ceased production, only in the US. We are from Mexico and there is plenty of luvs there. I think they look much better than S10s.. so much simpler, clean look. I was wondering if anyone has seen one imported from Mexico to the US. I know the fees must be outrageous, but man I would LOVE to own one. One thing that gets annoying is that over there all the little trucks are 4 door short beds. like baby Avalanches, and their suspension is HARD.. like there is no damn springs at all. lol. but Im sure with a little mod it woul be comfortable

I would probably rather one of these than a new Colorado. I am not impressed with what I have seen with them. I want to get rid of my S-10 eventually and have my 4x4 LUV customized. I wonder if GM would sell you one of these new LUVs here in the States ?

They've got one in Ecuador that has a 3.2 V6. You probably can't get one here in the states because of the polution regs here.

I didn't know there were still selling Luv's in Mexico.
I know they still sell VW Bugs there, but you can't bring them in because they won't pass the emission standards here.

I imagine you could have emissions installed or have one made to those specs ? I really wonder if one of my local GM salesmen could get this kind of info ? or could you contact GM directly ? I am just curious right now, but if they are the right price and able to get one legally that has emissions, I would seriously consider one over the Colorado. Maybe they would be exempt since it is non-emission from the factory ? I know my LUV's are exempt from emissions tests because of their age. If they never came with converters, then they don't have to have one. That is what they told me at inspection time. Some came with them, some didn't in my '79 and '80. I am guessing just the California models came with them back then.

I'd go buy one now if it were available! But no way I'm gonna replace my 79 longbed! He's got too much character to replace him! Even with another LUV!

I would never want to replace mine either, just would rather a new LUV over a Colorado. Would like to see one of these closer though. Maybe if we petition GM they will get rid of the Colorado and bring those new LUV's into the US! :D

I'll gladly sign such a petition!! I don't care for this all-aluminum engine design GM is toying with. And worse yet, a 5-cylinder!!! What was wrong with the goos old 4.3 V-6? My lil bro's 91 S-10 with a 4.3 TBI is way better and will last way longer than this 5-cylinder soda can engine. Furthermore, have you ever seen a good 5-cylinder? I haven't either. Let's petition GM to get the Audi Colorado off the market and put the LUV back into the new truck experience!! My truck needs a younger companion!

My thoughts exactly ! I like my 4.3 in the S-10. They should at least leave it an option in the Colorado. I am not impressed with the body style either. I looked at one at the car lot in the Summer and I thought it looked like there was a lot of plastic in this truck. This is the reason I went to the LUV. I have always wanted one anyway. The Colorado that I thought has the best body style is the Sport, but that is not available in 4x4 as far as I know ?

I was at a car show when the Colorado was coming out. I was looking at it and a guy came up and asked me what I thought of it. I told him i really didn't care for it with all the plastic on it, I told him its a truck for goodness sake. I also pointed out how I didn't like the 5 cyl, that I like how the old 4.3's parts would interchange with a 350 and such. He replied with that all chevy's straight motors (4, 5, 6) are all the same crank, rods, cam, and so on are the same thing except the number of cyl. He also said how the straight 5 has more horse, torq, and better gas milage than the 4.3. I don't think he liked how I pointed out that you have to take half the dam engine apart to change the plugs with all that plastic bs on the motor but he stated that "engine life has doubled since we made our engines more tamper proof so not everyone with a wrench can work on it" but I had to remind him that we all dont have the money to to send the truck in to a dealer to change a set of plugs. The guy kinda pissed me off that day because he wasn't really listening to me. Ohh well, I still got my good ol trusty LUV :D

I feel your pain! All the sales reps are interested in is selling their product. You not liking it prohibits their sales, so they ignore you and look for another potential victim! We should all come together and get some new LUV's into the country and prove what a POS this Colorado really is! I am a diehard Chevy fan but this 5-cylinder crap is just pathetic! It just goes to show yet again how the world tramples over the little guy!

I just got back from mexico and Saw seversl of the new 05 luv's. I even went to one of the dealorships and test drove one just for the heck of it. These truck look so much beter in person (of course not beter then the origional LUV's). It drove just like a newer s10 ( I havn't driven the colorado yet).

Did you get any other info on them while you were there ? If they drive as good as an S-10 then they can't be too awful. How much plastic was in them ? I wonder if they make a 4x4 ? I still have to get ahold of a local GM rep and see what kind of info they can dig up for me.
