My wife bought a 1953 Ford F-100 for me and I have a few questions for anyone who knows a bit about Fords. ( I am a Chevy guy, but love the looks of the old Ford Trucks). My gas mileage really sucks, like around 12 mpg. It has an early 70's mustang 302 with a four barrel Edelbrock carb that has WEBER stamped on the side. I have adjusted my timing and carb as best I can. The engine runs smooth, starts right up, and idles at 750 rpm. It does not have headers yet, but does have dual two inch diameter exhaust. The truck has a 3-speed automatic tranny and I think 3:05 gears in the rear end. I can do 60 mph at 2400 (give or take) rpm. I disconnected the power steering for now and haven't even put in the A/C yet. As it seems to run on the cold side, well under 150 degrees, I am putting a 180 degree thermostat in it this weekend to see if getting the temp up to where it should be might help. But does anyone have any ideas? I don't expect to get 25 mpg, but hope to get it to 18 or so. Is this realistic? I have a friend who insists he consistently gets 28 mpg in his '57 T-bird with a 327 and 2-speed powerglide in it. I sure hope there are some Chevy guys with Ford experience out there. I plan to be driving this truck from Las Vegas to Louisiana this July on my move back home!

PS. Hey Ben, this old guy still can't see what words are misspelled in the body of the text! I think you need a new section in brail for us blind drivers!

She sure does. Let me tell you she is HOT. Picture this, about 5' 4" tall, hair down to the middle of her back, great personality, 28 years old, three kids, about as wide as she is tall, nickname is gator gal (could have used braces when she was younger), smoke like a chimney, drinks like a fish, and has been married only four times! I can send you a panoramic picture of her if you want. So if you like poking porky, I'll introduce you to her. Oh yea, she collects pig figurines.

Don't get me wrong, we get along great. Her nickname for me is Dickless due to her huge mutt almost taking out my family jewels when we fist met resilting in me needing three stiches. (At least with the scar it's bigger now)

There was a girl in high school we called (not to her face) g.s. That was for gaping slash. She always had major camel toe going on.

There's a lady that drives a pilot car in Ca. Nicest person in the world and she even makes jokes about herself, She's as big as a house and has one tooth, in the middle up front. And rides a big ol motorcycle.

Hmmmm, that combo should get better mileage than that. Does it have a cam? Its not by any chance a Boss 302, is it? Thats a 302 block w/ 351C heads. That might explain it. Normal 302s get pretty good mileage, so I'm at a loss why yours is only pulling down 12mpg. Any idea what the cfm is on the carb? Heck, my old '64 F250 w/ tall gears & a Y block got 12mpg.

I was told it is simply a 302. As I know less than nothing about Fords, I have no idea what to look for to identify the various parts or the engine itself. Tomorrow night I will try to make time to see just what carb I have, the exact rear end gears, and tire diameters.I doubt it has a hot cam as it idles so smooth. Will let you know what I find.
