I didnt' tighted my collars on the Rag joint that connect to the steering columand the steering box. As a result it stripped the teeth in the collars.
I dont really want to get the ones out of a Junkyard, this is a part that
I dont want to give out. Its not fun when you looseing control of steering while driving. Has anyone else replaced the joint or put in a differnt steering column? I thought about welding it. But the local mechanic doesnt want to get sued if the weld breaks.

Did you strip the collars and the steering colum? If you didn't strip the colum and you just stripped the collars you can replace the collars.

The colum looks pretty good. I still dont like the idea of the collar being used and put on there. I need somone to weld it to be on the safe side.

Just get some different collars and make sure they are tight, I've never had a problem with those collars, so as long as there tight you should be ok.
I had a camaro steering come loose going around a corner the spline sliped right out of it, that was scary, the steering whell just span freely in circles, good thing i wasn't going that fast.

I got another Rag Joint out of the wrecking yard and
a differnt steering column. The newer column has two splies that are bunged up at the base of the splines. I took a small file and ran the file
inbetween the grooves.

Should I go ahead and put it together or should I go to a machinst (Can they fix splines?) Or should I just get anothoer column?

I can post pics if that will help. Thanks!
