how do you set the timming properly when putting the chain back on?

You can't put the chain back on correctly without the cover off. Becuz of the chain tensioner, there's more links on one side than the other. Even if you dangle the chain down there, get it on the crank sprocket, and get it tight over the cam sprocket on the side opposite the tensioner, you can't tell if the crank and cam are in sync. Not for sure. You want the directions for doing it with the cover off?

its alrite, doesnt matter ive solved my problem, wasnt the cam after all. turned out to be the firing order :oops: i was 90 degrees out

I take it you got the plug wires in wrong. That's easier to fix than the chain would've been.

yeah, i had to rotate all the plugs one spot clockwise
