Ok, so I broke down and bought an E-Z wiring kit and am in the process of rewiring my truck. My question is this, can I bypass the 2 relays that are on the passenger side of the truck or do I need to add them back in? Also, without creating a whole new dash setup, if I use the existing panel and existing gauges, I should be able to just cut the connector off of the old harness and wire it into the new wiring right?

I have seen posts of people who have bought the new harnesses, but haven't seen any posts of anybody completing the swap, so if you are out there and I missed your post about it, I apologize, if you have done it and haven't posted, I would be interested in hearing from you on how you completed it.

Thanks in advance, and forgive my ignorance, as stated previously, electrical and me don't play well together, but I am having fun trying to figure it out.

Chad

if you have the original engine/fuel pump you will have to add in the relays on the right.
My best advice I can give you is to make a wiring diagram!!!!!

first off extract the entire original wiring harness out of the truck and begin by finding out what wires you need and what wires you want to replace. I will let you know that the charging system (in my opinion) has alot of useless wires that you will be able to get rid of.
Oh and also include a ground under the dash, because the original doesn't have one and it needs one.

if you have any more questions PM, or email me and I will try to answer them.
Or let me know you replied here, so others can benefit from the questions/answers.

hope this was helpful.

Did this, and am planning on putting a ground in the dash area. The E-Z harness doesn't come with grounds so if you decide to go this route keep that in mind. Right now I'm trying to figure out and make sure I have all the grounds I need. I am going back to the orignal harness that I took out and mapping the grounds it had in it and trying to duplicate them. As for connectors, I am trying to reuse some of the existing ones, but some of them are so bad I'm trying to get some new ones. One thing I did notice is that the new wiring harness only provides 4 wires that go back to the tail light assembly, where as the old harness had 5. I have some new connectors on order, but some are on back order so waiting for them to show up to see if they are going to work. Basically right now I have completed the back of the truck minus the connectors at the tail light assemblies, and next will be working on the engine bay, then the interior and dash. I will take some pics and post updates in this thread for those that are interested. Thanks for the tips and suggestions Luv4me.

Just wanted to let everyone know I have gotten the beast back on the road. A brief recap, I gutted all of the electrical and replaced it with an E-Z wiring harness. Replaced all of the rubber brake lines, new pads front and rear, new calipers and drums, and new shocks. I am writing up a more detailed recap of the electrical as it was quite an adventure, and I couldn't have done it without the help of the E-Z wiring tech support. They get an A++ from me, they were very patient and very helpful.

After this, there really isn't much left for me to do to it, I am in need of some good fenders, (watchin a couple on ebay), some other misc body work then paint, new windshield, new wheels and tires, the tires I have on it now are just some cheap all seasons, but will suffice till I save for some BFG's. Need to dynamat the interior then carpet it. Working on the stereo system now, and I think I am going to put elec locks in it.

When I finish my write up I'll post a new thread with the steps and the help that I received from E-Z so that maybe I can save others a little bit of the headache I endured.
