If you have the instructions, follow them and make sure the tach can be used with a 4 cylinder. I am not sure about stock engines, but on a sbc, there is a place on the distributor (a pin on the ignition control module) to hook up the tach signal wire.

There's always room for duct tape and bailing wire.

i know you could go mechanical whith it, but that would be alot of labor there. I would think you could mount it up off the injectors instead of the coil. I would think the injectors would fire like spark plugs fire on a gaser. Or i could be completly wrong and making an ass of myself...

the only problem with hooking it up to the injector is cause not all injectors fire in sequential order like spark plugs. some engines fire injectors at the same time but if they do fire sequentialy you could probaly theareticaly do it. but i don't know to much about the deisels. matt

inectors on diesels are not electronic, they work off pressure in the pump they have, but you can put a tach. on a diesel, you just need the right type of plug that goes into the side of the pump... it looks like a bolt w/ wires comin out of it, prob. is that you'd have to take the pump off and out to get to it... but finding a tach. that plugs into the pump is another story, i've yet to see those 2 parts EVER... but chiltin's shows the plug in their book....
