anodization. like with aluminum. call some plating shops and see if anyone will plate them for ya. or get another set which will be cheaper, but probably won't look as nice.

I've used Mothers aluminum polish before. just be gentle and don't use to much pressure....

I just went through cleaning the paint off my headlight surrounds, which are also plasti-chrome. I started out with gentle stuff, but by the time I was done I had tried Turtle Wax chrome polish and even rubbing compound among other things. What worked for getting the paint off finally was acetone. I had my doubts that it would play nice with the plastic, but it didn't even start to soften it up. It will take off paint though, and most of the emblems have at least a touch of paint on them over the chrome. For just cleaning dirt/stains off I would go with the chrome polish. I've since used it to brighten up a couple Mikado emblems I have sitting around and it worked fine. Just be sure you clean all the loose dirt off first. If a chunk of grit (small rock, sand, etc) got on the rag you would be dragging it around and creating scratches.

Acetone... you are a braver man than I am! But I suppose if nothing else was working you didn't have anything to lose. I will have to file that one for future reference....
