 Post subject: Proform Tachometer
PostPosted: Wed Dec 15, 2004 10:57 pm
Hey guys.. my first post, but for sure not my last. Me and my friend purchased a 75 luv from a friend a few months ago he had a v8 already in it, but we bought it as a rolling chassis. We just recently finished the motor/tranny got everything running but one thing that didnt work was the tachometer/speedometer. The speedometer is the stock one and the linkage doesnt hook up it seems ( was wondering if i had to buy an aftermarket one for it to work), and also the tach is a Proform Tach (the 11,000 rpm one). Well the tach used to work when our friend had his v8 in it, but it had sat in the sun for a few months but now it doesnt seem to work. Where do all the wires go? I know that the green one goes to the distributer, red power, black ground, but then there is a white wire which i have no clue to where it goes. so in total there are 4 wires 3 of which i know where they go and were hooked up already but the white one is just sitting there. Well thank you all for the help I will be posting pics soon of the new S.D. luv

The white is usually for a light.

when i turn the ignition on the light comes on and stays on, but nothing else on the tach works.. so i was wondering is it hooked up wrong or is it just broken?

well if the light is coming on you probably have a good ground. I would just make sure that what you have the distributor hooked up is what it is suppose to be hooked up to. (take a voltmeter and make sure the power actually has power) What distributor are you running? are you sure the signal wire is hooked to the correct place?

As for the speedo.....When I used my stock speedo I purchased a stock speedo cable and went to a little hole in the wall shop and they changed the end that goes into the tranny to match a GM fit. You may want to check around in your area and see if anyone does this.

hope this was helpful.

the green one goes to the negative side of the coil, usually.

get an autometer tach. I bought a proform and it didnt work right out of the box. I returned it to jegs and got an autometer and its worked good for me ever since. I also had one of their adjustable shift lights in my camaro and the damn light would flash on and off at idle for no reason. bugged the shit out of me. got rid of it and put in a summit adjustable shift light and that works perfect. I havent had much luck with Proform stuff. I bought an electric water pump from jegs and when it came the package said Proform on it (doenst say proform in the catalog). I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I have some better luck with the pump than Ive had in the past
