I have a 1974 Mercedes Benz 450 SEL 4 door sedan. I know NOTHING about Mercedes Benz automobiles at all, and am hoping to find someone who does have some knowledge of them.
This car has a V8 gas engine w/ OVERhead cams, yes camS, no misprint there.

I have been asking around town for months.......Does ANYbody know what cubic inch engine this could possibly be :?: The engine is ENORMOUS :!: It runs beautifully.....I would just like to know what size engine and where or how to go about finding minor things like a tune up kit, plugs points etc for it. because I have been to local parts houses, and they tell me since I dont know the engine size they can't help me. The car has sat for years and I aim to put it back on the road and use it for my V.I.P. meetings 8)

Any and all help on this is greatly appreciated and I thank all in advance.

Can't help w/ your particular questions, but I have to offer up some advice- leave that car alone. MB's are junk, honestly. Over here they are seen as a status symbol, but in Germany they are used as cabs & such. I know a German MB mechanic & he hates them w/ a passion. No MB mechanic I've talked to likes them, come to think of it. I have experience w/ a couple & can honestly say I am not impressed. Parts are high, & almost any little thing can make them stop running. Sell it & buy a Caddy if you need a luxury car! The MB ain't gonna be worth it. 8O

Well, that's what a few ppl here have told me as well.so now I am taking a 2nd look at this car, and yes i know.....i have looked up parts online for this car , you're right...everything is expensive as hell for it. 8O
car runs great, so maybe ill just be the classiest wreckin yard there is and just use it for a "Yard car"....then go pick up this 1933 Rolls Royce that was given to me today, and drive it instead.

But I kinda do like the MB cause it looks jus like the one J.R, ewing drove on old TV show "Dallas"...so i won't junk it no matter what.It will have a purpose somewhere amongst my acres of wreckage....lol

That RR would be a nice ride, too. But i hear they're a bitch for parts as well. I'd like to see some pics of the MB if you could get em up. Good luck with your luxo endeavour :)

Not really, the place i discovered in my travels yest, has about 50 of those cars, and they are quite reasonable on thier parts. All's I really need anyway is a front bumper and some kool lookin wheels...the car runs superbly and needs NOthing otherwise. 8)

Hey I don't know if you have an answer to your question about the engine size yet but it is a 4500cc V-8. Hope that helps at the parts store.

John

Well, I appreciate the info there John but as of today this car is JUNK. Got it fired up (it's been sittin like 3 yrs) and it ran great for about two mins, then one of the overhead cam chains, snapped and that was the end of it.....already started the dismatilization program on it 8)

This ol Rolls is an awesome ol ride, it's one of those where the drivers compartment has no roof and spare tire mounts on front fenders. :D

Sorry man- I had to say it. :D

The Rolls will be worth the trouble, though. A 500 cid Caddy mill would be a nice powerplant if the original motor is toast.........
