daddywabbit has a point. If you look at all the fast cars out there, they are not running an Edlebrock carb. He just doesn't know how to get a point across while being polite and tactful. :)

On the flip side, the Edlebrock carbs do work, and some may prefer them for a given milder setup.

I'm not going to lock it because there hasn't been any name calling or sand throwing. I did, however, edit a post or two. :)

Well I agree with some points. Edel's don't seem to have the performance of some other carbs, such as, Holley. BUT, I love tuning an Edel, simple, easy to use. I currently have a Edel on my 283, I had a Holley on it for the longest time, but it started to get wore out, and sloppy, and the Edel was a cheap buy. I will say there was increased bottom line power, and smoother with the Holley, but I was ALWAYS tuning it for perfection. As with the Edelbrock, its kinda "set it and forget it". Thats what I like about them. Plus I think they look better. Just my opinion... 8)

Rochester quadrajet ownz Eddelbricks!

Seriously though, I bet there is someone out there running an eddy that puts down times that would amaze all of us. I've seen people make rigs do things that everyone else would swear was impossible. I try to never say "you can't do that, no way" because it just sets me up to have some smart--- prove me wrong.

That said, Edelbrocks are what you see lots of in parts stores, with the occasional mild Holley. Their market is Joe Sixpack so it has to work and be easy before all other considerations. The tiny minority of people who build race motors and can tune dual carbs blindfolded, buy things built for their market. Odds are they'll do better with those parts than Mr. Sixpack would, but he can throw on an Edelbrock pretty near as well as they can. At least that is my take on it after years as an engineer dealing with marketing on computer upgrade parts. No matter how fast or clever the design was, it had to be easy or it wouldn't sell.

Please i think everyone just needs to learn how to respect everyones oppinion. Edlbroks are easier to tune than a holley from what i have seen and are a little more predictable, thats probly why dave whent whith one.

Fast is a relative term too, the earth rotates at what...@1000mph travels around the sun at about 67,000mph. and it doesn't even have a carb.

Hey, guys. My stay will be short. Just wanted to pop in here and say a few things. One, I am not against edelbrock as they make a nice set of affordable aluminum heads. I like my edelbrock carb, but that is because Its low maintenance. I will say this, I chunked my first rearend when I took THAT edelbrock off and put on a holly for the weekend. I also about turned my truck sideways @ 55mph 8O after throwing on a predator for a weekend. The only thing surprizing about that is it had a great deal "more" juice and caught me off guard. I KNOW my truck would be faster with something else.

Second, although DW's delivery is a bit rough, Id have to agree. It seems to me over the 5 years of BS'ing about highperformance, edelbrock sitting on top of my v8 has got a lot of negative feedback.

Lastly, one freindly point of advice- There are different levels of highperformance. I would never call another guys Luv truck a peice of garbage. A guy with a stock truck with a new air cleaner has as much to be proud of as a guy with a great job building a high budget race truck. If thats all you can do, dont put him down.

Id love to see some sponsered NHRA guy get on here and make everyone- including DW look like little boys with tonka toys.

I appriciate all your rides. Any condition.

G

i would not go as far to say that ssluv about nhra/ihra.....its all about tech and r and d and money.......i witnessed a 2000 lb tube chassis door car with a monster sbc and a 4 inch cowl hood with dual stage fogger set up run a 4.14 against a funny car in time trials, the funny car beat him=went 4.06 but got the scare of his life, about to get his ass handed to him by a 2 man operation vs a fully sponsor ride...on racing fuel not alky.....nhra/ihra don't scare me or people who know better, yes they got $$$$$ and sponsor plus the engine limitations in nhra/ihra are so different.......i've been beat before, many times but i try to compare apples to apples, not apples to oranges, when you start talking about nhra fully exempt rides with 20 team members ,how can you relate that to a street driven vehicle,im talking about licensed, titled, tagged vehicle, not an alky blown drag car.......let s be real here!I am talking about those driven on the street.not trailor queens.......i think you are losing sight of realism vs a flat out drag vehicle......thats my 2 cents......i ve got beaten by good cars and ran out just to beat a rail heads up...I don't think people know how fast low 5's or high 4s is in the eighth and until you've been in one and felt like you were skating on ice=cuz thats what it feels like, you can not relate,my luv with a 355 and ford 9 with a 3.90 gear ..and 3 way adj shocks went 8.57 in the eighth.and I thought i had a fast truck!.a ford cobra with a 351/390 hp went 8.22s at the track a while back and they are suppose to be fast and a new corvette with the big motor went 8.19 all in the eighth, but i will give them their due ,they are really 1/4 mile vehicles and up.......
