couldn't you make one?

I mean with the rubber around the window and just get a glass cut and use some of the latches like are on vans......
couldn't you just do that?

I'm still trying to figure out how it works. Is the glass attached at the center and actually bends or does the whole glass hang off those two latches?

I thought you would like it. I found the one but for another truck, was going to get it anyway took the glass out and tryed it to the luv and as luck would have it i could shave it down to fit but would end up with 2 holes where the clip to open the window was, would have to relocate the clips. so it would not work and am still looking. if it where only 1 inch wider it would of worked

The glass is held by 2 center clips if you look at the picture you can see them they look white and the glass bends.
after looking at the one I found I think I can make one looked simple enough

Is it actually glass or a material like Lexan? Lexan is a plastic that can give a little,. It is used on windshields in Nascar. Stressing the glass like that would probaby cause it to shatter if something should strike it. Lexan would be a better solution for this type of installation. It is a lot easier to work with.

With all that said, I think that really looks Rad. I've never seen it before

I thought that looked a little freaky, guess I was right. I bet they don't use standard tempered auto glass, it does not take to flexing well at all. I would be inclined to do something in Lexan or Plexi, but they would both eventually form internal cracking that you'd have to look through. If you got a clear plastic product "soft" enough to avoid cracks it would probably take scratches too easy for my taste.

When I first heard of these I thought they sounded cool, but after hearing the reality I'll reserve my judgement until I get to see one in person on something. Glass bowed into a tense bend right behind my head does not sound like something I'd want. Still sounds cool, but I need to understand a bit more of the mechanics involved before I start drooling

It does get me thinking though. Take something like a rear slider, put in a solid center section and two hinge mounted side wings with similar latches to that picture.

Oh, found another picture in looking for info on these:

I wonder if it has soft glass (untempered) and has some sort of coating on it, kinda like the windshield has to keep it together if it does break...

I can tell you from my experience that, the window is glass and does not have a coating on it. About 20 years ago when I was trying to take one of those windows out it shattered into a million little pieces. About 1/4 inch each. I really liked it until that happened. I would definetly use Lexan!
