I'm not sure there is enough room in the engine compartment for that 429. But I would die trying to make it fit. 8O  Ford lovers everywhere will cheer you for saving that mustang. 8)

From personal past experience.......the 429 will NOT fit in the stang engine compartment unless you sub-frame it,and then cut out most part of inner fenders, shock towers etc.( I already tried this w a stang and a 63 falcon years ago)
But still.......I would NOT let them go to a scrap-yard if I was you.
I'm an ol nuckle-bustin ford fanatic from waaaaaaaaay back and would almost kill to have couple cars like that, both were kool cars and the value on them(even in pieces these days) is still remarkably high.
Just for the bare shell on that mustang you are looking at a minimum of $500 to a collector :!:

If it was me, I would just strip them both down completely and put it all on ebay, kick back, rake in the dough and take sometime off from work......trust me, you got some bucks there dude! :D

Keep the stang and scrap the bird. 289's can be built up really nice. The bird can bring you some money for the mustang rework.
Thats my 2 cents...

thanks for the replays found a 302 roller motor my buddy said i could have out of his lincoln, sounds like it would be alot easier anyway, plus i dont wanna have to cut the car up at all. on the plus side though i pulled the car out of the sticker bushes today and found out all the trim is inside the car and looks to be in great condition plus there was a couple air tools inside it, paint gun, 2 da's, its lookin good already lol
