I can drive my 76 luv all day at 65 with no problem but any faster and it sometimes cuts out and loses power unless the gas is pushed all the way down. If I shut the truck off while cruising down the road, and restart the problem goes away until I get above 65 again. It also sometime happens when I try to accelerate fast, and again I have to sut it off for a few seconds to get it working again. Is something in the carb sticking or maybe an electrical problem?

Yes, it sounds like a fuel problem. The minimum pressure should between 3-7 psi. But also check the volume output, fuel flow should be steady and brisk, maybe about a quart every 30 seconds. Also check for a dirty metallic filter if you carb has one. These were the easy things to check.

Next would be the carb float level set to low or maybe a restricted main jets In any case it will requrire you to dismantle the carb for inspection and/or cleaning.

Good luck

Have you checked your ignition timing?

If your timing is advanced too far, it will fall flat on it's face under mid to full throttle but shuting it off won't help that so i'm sure these guys are right and it's a fuel problem. Just trying to cover all bases :D
Good luck

I still cant figure it out. fuel pump is good, filter is clean. it couldnt be a fuel problem anyway cause when it starts to cut out, and I floor it, it keeps running. shutting off the ignition has to reset something but I'm not sure what

It sounds like the suggestions you are getting are pretty good. I think it still may be a fuel problem. After checking all the external fuel possiblilities, fuel pressure, fuel flow, clog filters you may have to dig deeper into the carb. But before you do, check all the "easy" stuff like the timing, timing advance, vacuum, carb idle adjustments. It is best to double check those easy thing before getting into the carb.

Here's the scoop with carbs. At idle, the idle mixture screw controls the fuel mixture, off idle to mid throttle a combination of the both idle mixture and the main jets control the mixture, from mid throttle to max throttle the mains jets start to become the primarily control. It sounds like somewhere between mid and full throttle you are losing fuel. When you stomp on the gas, you send a blast of fuel from the accelerated circuit (acceleration pump) which causes the engine to "pick up" temporarily. This condition, I have seen was casued by a low fuel bowl level or dirty or clogged mains. I would try to use some carb cleaner in the carb to see if that clears the problem. GUMOUT had a setup where you could feed cleaner directly in to the carbs input to provide a full strength shot into the carbs.

good luck
