ok....to those former marines i may have ticked off a bit ...i apoligize....we are all brothers in arms.
my biggest problem with the marines is the way they try to overcompliecate everything.....for example.
general orders
marines...11 general orders.
army....3 that cover the same damn things.
dispatch a vehicle that is going to stay on base.
army..(at least my unit)....go to motorpool.
dispatcher prints off 5988. you PMCS the truck, write up anything wrong. you log down the mileage.
you drive the truck.
you come back to turn the truck in. log down the mileageand the time returned.
write up anything else that may have broken. if it is operator level fix it. make sure truck has fuel and is clean.....the end.
marines..(at least these guys)
go to motorpool. dispatcher consults a stack of papers, askes the mechanics if truck # such and such is fixed. no it aint. consults another stack of papers. finaly finds a truck. writes down on a big ass sheet of paper with a bunch of lines a bunch of info. gives you another peice of paper.
you go try and locate truck. hopefully find it. do a PMCS. try to fix anything that is operator level. write up anything else. write up but ignore the deadline items like a inop spedo b/c you dont wanna have to walk to post guards on OPs.
go get a ratchet strap from the 5ton you drive to work to use as a troop strap b/c the truck dont have one, anyone you ask for one tells you to go see someone else, and you dont want your troops to fall out the back.
log down mileage.
drive truck.
you come back at the end of your 8 hr shift that takes 12 hrs to do and turn the truck back in.
write down every damn place you went, how long you was there, and the miles since the last place you stopped (last bit you cant do b/c that spedo is broke remember).
write down the number of passengers you was hauling at each stop.
write down anything that may have broken or possibly fell off truck.
write down time diffrence.
make sure truck is clean and has fuel.
take line NCO (a Cpl that acts like its the biggest fuckin burden to do any type of work plus you are interupting his movie) paperwork.
line NCO makes you fill out NEW paperwork b/c the old sheet has been riding around in your flak all night and is folded and a bit crumpled. rewrite paperwork. Cpl goes back to movie.
hand in both sheets b/c the original has the dispatchers john handcock. Cpl asks why the mileage aint filled out.
explain thet the spedo is inop. he says that is a deadline. you say no shit i know.
he trys giving you hell for driving a deadlined truck
....resist the urge to haul off and slap the shit outta the bastard.
