well,i never knew what a luv was until i saw mine.my dad came home one afternoon with one of his buddies truck.my dad works on 3 or 4 cars a week.he told me to come outside to look at this neat little truck.i was like okay, walked outside and started to laugh at the piece of crap.saying stuff like i'd never drive that thing.2 months went by and i was about to get my license but had no car.my dad came home one night and told me he bought me a car.i was like oh, shit he knows his cars, he wouldn't buy me something ugly.so i walked outside and almost shit myself.well atleast i had wheels.so i started to do lots of bodywork and cleaning.first sanded 8 times and 9 coats of primer.worked my ass on her for 2 months without sleep..now these days i really wouldn't trade her for nothing.never really had that many problems(if you call a head gasket a problem)check out the pics and look at the difference.

My 75 was FREE...my grandpa was its second owner and he drove it for years (not sure how long).....then he passed away and my uncle drove the shit out of it for 2 years until he blew blew the head gasket, then he parked it at my grandma's for another 2 or 3 years. then I came along, 16 years old, still in high school, little bit of money, needed some wheels to drive to work in. Plus, at the time I was in vo-tech and the paint and body teacher had 3 cherry luvs (2 with 350's), everyday I always heard everybody talkin them and how bad they were, so I decided to offer my grandma some money for it and she told me i could have it as long as I didn't sell it and if i wanted to get rid of it I would have to give it back. couple hundred $ later i was driving the shit out of it. lasted about 2 years, 4 banger went ka-put, 3 years later its almost ready to be driving again only this time nobody can make fun of me :)

I remember when I was 11 my friends dad had a 79 luv with a 350.The first time I went to his house I fell in luv with the truck. So about 6 months ago I was looking for another truck and I was looking off to the side of the road and theres a white luv sitting in a driveway with a for sale sign on it!So I go to the house to see if he was there and he was gone.So I come back a week later and its still there,So I go back and hes there and I get to testdrive it and it started to run like crap.I come back and tell him Id give him 700 and he said okay.So I pull up to my house with my new 75 and it runs out of gas right in the driveway 8O :D

i bought a 79 4x4 from a old guy for $500. it had been sitting for about 12 yrs. he had pics of it when it was new and it was hot!!! I worked on it for a while then ran out of things to do till i found a bed. a few weeks ago, i found a whole truck with a bad timing chain for $100 and scooped it up. I used the carb, bed, starter and front tires and rims on the 4x4 and a lot of rattle can primer ( i race off road ) and some kelly green paint. I put in the long leaf springs and adjusted out the tortion bars for more clearance on the jumps, and thats about it. total costs with a tune up : $ 650.00.

77 2WD came minus motor with an Auto trans for $100, bought a wrecked 77 with motor and trans that ran (still does) very well for $200. I drove this all thru high school and during part of college until picked up my next LUV.

76 2WD bought from my brother for the cost of the new tires he had put on it, $350. It had the motor out of an 80 LUV that had been towed behind an RV for 99% of its mileage so it ran great, until I fell asleep and hit the end of a concrete bridge head on. Totaled the truck and busted my lip and thumb up, but I guess it beat missing the bridge and going swimming.

79 4WD I saw in a field and asked the owner about it and he wanted $1200 for it non-running. Waited a few months, and it hit $800, few more months and it was $500 so I picked it up. A few minutes of tinkering and I drove it home. A lot more fixing and unfixing and I now drive it every day. Still has a lot of body rot from a previous life in Utah road salt, but its all low on the body and mostly covered so it looks decent. Just don't stomp your feet on the passenger side floorboard. Bucket seats from a mid 70s Camaro came with it, but I don't recommend them. They are too big to sit back far enough to make them easy to get in/out of. Comfy once you're in them if you can stand not ever having your legs straight though.

79 4WD Traded for an 83 Isusu Pup 2WD that had once been set up for off road, and had not taken well to it. The Pup ran for just a week or two after I drove it over for the trade. The 79 LUV has still yet to come to life. Last thing done to it was a head gasket and it ran for just a few days after that before I got it This one has a tilt wheel from some 70s Buick in it, the wheel is ugly as sin, but the collumn looks nice. Will be great with a nice Grant wheel on there if I can ever figure out which adapter to use.

79 or 80 (I forget which) 4WD I saw along the street for $100. Timing chain was replaced and they never finished reassembling it. Stock height and the front end wear looked minimal so I figured I bought CV joints cheap, but I haven't done much more with it yet. Body is rusty and rough but all there.

79 4WD I bought it with a "bad head gasket" for $150 but at least I could drive it home. The head turned out to be cracked inside #2 cylinder chamber but the bottom end still looks good. Just need to find the time to clean up another head and finish the repairs.

No V6 or V8 conversions yet, but I've thought about it. I think I'd rather stick closer to stock and pick up something like a later Isuzu motor and 5 speed trans. Just enough to make it more drivable and not have to completely rework the entire drivetrain. Maybe one day I'll get the V8 bug, not like I don't have enough trucks to experiement on.

my first one 81 4x4 800.00 real nice shape it lasted for 265,000 miles i put the last 130,000 on it. the current luv i paid 200.00 for it pretty decent body on it interior is typical for the age. engine was seized in it,now something like 3000.00 later its about to hit the track for the first time.hopefully in the next month.by the way the stock trans and cyl head and whats left of the motor is going to the scrap metal yard unless somebody wants to pick it up. later terry

My '78 solid axle 4X4 was free!
Owners just wanted it out of their yard because the engine was bad.
