Well I took that pic at a truck show here in Denver about 10 years ago that I was entered in also. I talked to the guy for a while. Didnt see the truck again until last year. It was sitting for sale on one of the main streets in Denver. I checked it out, it was still like it was in the early 90's, except the paint was getting a little worn. The truck has a v8 and the suspension is very well done and pretty beefed up (has a pretty much all Toyota suspension). I figured if he wanted around 5K for it, it would be mine! Well I called him and dont think it was the guy I originally talked to, well he wanted $12k for it. 8O So needless to say I didnt buy it. The thing that really peeved me, it has the rear flex thru window I have been searching endlessly for and the guy wouldnt let me buy it and give him my extra rear glass. I bet if anyone did buy it, they would even know what it was and I dont think he did either.
What did you want to know about it, I dont know much but will try to help ya.

8O 12k?? 8O

Thanks for the info. I was mostly wondering about what axles/springs and motor/tranny/t-case was used. I was planning on Toy axles, springs arent a big issue cause with the fab work involved in a SFA swap, there are alot of options. If I am able to find a pre-smog truck(California sucks) , I was thinking of a 22r with 20r head and things like header, cam etc. should be plenty power and still get decent mileage(I intend to drive it alot) :D along with a Toy tranny and t-case. With this in mind, it would have been nice to talk to whoever built that truck to find out details on steering components and all the little stuff to avoid some of the trial and error.

I was looking at a Luv in my local salvage yard and it sure seems like the frame would need to be extended some to fit leafs on the front. Can anyone who has done a SFA swap on their Luv confirm this or offer more info?

I know what you are talking about but I haven't seen one for many years. A guy in the town I grew up in had one in one of the first Nissan minis when Datsun became Nissan-82 or 83 I think. They are pretty cool. I will keep my eyes open here in Cali for ya

A flex thru is a rear window they made in the 80s. I think it's made from a kind of tinted lexan or something and each end of it pops or "flexes" out a bit similar to a vw bug quarter window to provide ventilation and a pretty unique look, especially nowadays since they are way rare. 8)

8O 8O WOW!! You are the second person I have met that knows what a flex thru is!!! There was another guy here a while back that had one he was going to sell me but after seeing the pics he sent, it ended up being broke and there would be no way to fix it, I was pretty dissapointed.
Man if you could find one for me, I would be eternally grateful!!! I would say that most of them ended up in Cali so hopefully there is still someone there holding on to one.!!! You can tell how long people have been into minitrucks by the parts they know of!
Sorry I cant help ya more on that stepside setup, like I said when I talked to the guy about buying it over the phone, I am pretty sure he isnt the builder and he pretty much was a jerk to me. Later Todd

i think a more elegant way to build a 4wd luv would be to run radius arms and a panhard bar with coil springs or coilvers on the front axle instead of leaves. wouldn't be all that hard to do, and it'd ride and flex better than leaf springs

as for the motor, just go find a late model 22R(post '84). they made more power than both the 20R and the early 22R, putting a 20R head on doesn't really give much gain for how much work it takes, unless you're a circle track racer.

another cool option would be a 3.1l or 3.4l chevy 60* v6 engine. you can bolt most toyota transmissions behind this these engines with a bellhousing from an '88-99 jeep 2.5l bellhousing. check here for more info. the 60* motor would give you plenty of pull but isn't big enough to really destroy the toyota parts unless you really beef up the engine and beat on the truck  [/url]

I know where there is a flex thru . Only problem is its not for the luv, wrong shape but it is for a small pickup and in great shape the guy has no idea what it goes to though

First off that has to be one of the nicest lookin 4x4's I have ever seen! Not much of a 4x4 fan but that thing is flippin awsome lookin. The other is , I had a flex back window on a D-50 that I bought way back in the day, that some one had did a lil tricken on, and I have not seen one since, but will keep an eye out!
