so i whent and took the Ford out bogging yesterday. It was running great, the Holley was a little rich but that was sorted out after some donuts and a few power brakes in the field. So my first comes up, i give her hell and set a time 5seconds faster than anyone in 4&6 cylinder class and a time thats 2seconds faster than anyone in stock v-8. I am happy, nothing could ruin my garenteed first place trophey in my second mud race. I line up for my second run, the flage drops. Gas to the floor clutch dumped, the second the truck starts going i hear a nice little pop followed by a constant jingle grind type noise. no power anywhere. Scratch one NP435 4speed trany input shaft and my first trophey...

Oh theres now a nice little dent in the passenger side fender where my fist met the sheetmetal whith considerable force. My right hand is finally back to normal size too...

wow, that's the first 435 i've ever heard of blowing up.

and for the record, chevy and dodge used them too

come to think of it, up until the 80s most 4x4 american trucks had pretty much the same drivetrain except for the engine...

Actually Chevy used a New Venture gear box i think. But its an SM 465, perty much identical to the Ford and Dodge NP 435 just a diferent manufacturer. And only Ford NP208 T-cases came fixed yoke (Ford got a few things right). And as far as the breakage, i was suprised too. But the 300-6 in it is getting me number around 530lbs ft at 1800rpm and the small block NP 435s only have a 17 spline input and a 20 spline output...

chevy did use the 435 in some trucks, but not as many as their venerable SM420 and SM465 gearboxes(mainly because they are a chev tranny, not a new process like the 435). haven driven vehicles with the 435, t18 and sm465(my truck at work), i say the 465 has to be the loudest, hardest to shift tranny i've ever driven, but it'll hang in there(just like the others)

also, new process became new venture in the 90s, they make the NV3500, NV4500 and NV5600 trannies now and several transfer cases
