 Post subject: Misses?
PostPosted: Thu Sep 30, 2004 1:55 pm
First off I would like to say this is a awesome forum. Ok here gos I just got my truck a couple days ago it's a 1976 std. cab with the 1.8 liter, 4 speed. Here's the problem it misses like the timing isn't set right. I had the timing set and it still does it so I replaced the following Cap/rotor/plugs and it still does it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site.. :drinking: Pull up a bucket and grab a beer...

Is the truck missing at idle, or when you take off?

Make sure your firing order is right... sounds silly, but I've done it before... runs really bad like that...

Next, replace your points and condenser.... cheap, and easy to do...

Also, make sure all your electrical connections are good to your coil...

If that doesn't work, it's likely your coil...

.....or igniter, or a burnt valve, or carb probs. I just replaced carb on my truck cause it was missing while idling 8O ..I KNEW it couldn't be a burnt valve cause there is only 6000 miles on my engine.....T'was in the carb.

We thought it was the carb aswell so we replaced it with a rebuilt one. But it still does it. It misses at idle and it kinda sputters when acceling. Thanks for the welcoming/help

I think what drummer meant was to make sure the spark plug wires go to their designated spark plug....

Yeah and I really agree with him on the points thing. Mine were burnt, and it acted like a bad plug. It sputtered and missed till I replaced them. Oh and Welcome Aboard :drinking:

The order in which the pistons are at top dead center when the distributor sends the spark to the specified cylinder. When the piston is at top dead center on the compression stroke.

Check out the wiring diagrams in the info section at the site homepage. It will give you an idea as to which spark plug wires go to which cylinders...
