i've been thinkin about putting a electric fan in my luv for awhile. what do you guys think ? should i go with a 2 fan setup or just one ? what would be better for heat buildup, pusher fan and puller fan or just go with 1 single pusher ? would 28 amps be hard on the alt/battery ?

i'm planning on putting herculiner on the underside of my hood for hail protection. it hails ALOT out here and i already have damn near 50 dents to fix right now. i'm hopeing the herculiner will help stiffen the hood up.
now, that comes to major problem, heat buildup. diffently a no no with these 1.8's.
thats why i started to lean on the dual fan setup. i'm also planning on tearing out my wheel wells to help get rid of the heat. once i can get the cash i'm planning on getting a 1 inch cowl also to help with the heat problem.

anybody got any ideas ??

28 amps won't hurt the battery, cuz you don't use it except to start. Unless, of course, your alternator is bad. But the 28 amps puts quite a load on the alternator. You'll notice this especially while driving at night with the headlights on. I had my radiator rebuilt and a 3 layer core installed to eliminate the heat problem I had. Worked, too. A month ago I climbed the two longest, steepest grades in Idaho, Whitebird Hill and the Lewiston grade, in high gear with the air conditioning going and the heat needle only moved up the with of the needle and held there the whole climb each time.

Generally you want to cover as much of the radiator as possible with the electric fan. Probably going to do it with 1, I'd guess. I actually prefer pushers to pullers. Alot of them you can do either one, by reversing the wiring or by flipping the blades.

Just get as big a fan as will fit and check its cfm. The more air you move the better, but more is more $$. Usually.

Anyway good luck.

yeah that is good. Alot of them you find will probably be in the 1200 to 1800 range.

Definetly look into a bigger battery. I am running a single electric fan and the original alternator, and when you throw the headlights on at night, plus the stereo going, she sucks juice like theres no tommorow. I put a BIG battery in (forget what it is, will check) and it helps, but I still might have to boost the truck to get it to whirl over. A bigger alternator would solve my problems...time is the only problem...

Other then that, the Electric fan(s) are the cats ass as far as I am concerned. Gives your engine more power, as it does not have to spin that ridculous fan. Plus I can shut the fan off with a toggle switch in the cab when its cold out to get the engine up to operating temp faster.

if you install an electric fan be sure to control it via a relay.
if you need help hooking it up I have some links on how to wire it.
most switches can't handle the load of an electric fan.

How bout using a flex fan ?
You might ask "what does this have to do with the price of tea in china"
I was thinking it would keep things cool withouht having to mess with the wiring. I suppost there are pros and cons to both.

yeah i thought about flex fan. for 100 bucks more i can have an electric. should i get one with a built in thermostat ? i was still going to run it off a toggle switch like smokinluv said.
i've always had a rv battery in my luv. with the stereo i had in there i really didn't have a problem with power. i also have my voltage regulater turned up a bit.

jegs has the one i want for 180. its the 15 1/2 2800 cfm one. is it worth that or do you guys know of a cheaper place ?

ive just bought one for my luv as i have no room for a standard engine fan, its only a 10' but ive been told it will do the job, i also got a switch too, ya have this long wire that goes in the radiator return hose and the switch shuts off or turns on the fan when it needs to

I have a push pull setup. Both of my fans were from Jegs. The puller is a 16". It is the only 16 I found that will fit our stock radiator, and it fits just right too. It is called the "Performance European Electric Fan" PN134-75014. It is slim enough to fit between the radiator and the water pump. The pusher I used is a "S-Blade Electric Fan" PN 400-394. Now this one just barely fits, especially if you have A/C. I had to bend the valence down (the metal piece behind the bumper) just a bit so it would fit in. They both came with decent hardware. Together these fans only pull about 20 amps, and they do the job just fine.
