o.k heres the deal. My truck has been running great, I drove it just fine last thursday no prob. the next day I started it went to a friends house 3 miles away. I went to leave her house and it wouldn't start, so I jumped it and it was fine until I tried to turn the lights on. when I did it killed the truck. I had the bat. tested and it was fine and should be because I just bought it 3 weeks ago. so I tested the alt. it was bad so I bought a new one. this was good but when I tried to shut it off it wouldn't, I could take the key out but it was still running. I had to kill it myself, fine because at least it starts (not really) but now it won't start unless I jump or bump it what the hell is going on

On this issue, you more than likely have a leak or hole in vacuum hose that comes off the brake booster (it's typical w old age on these trucks)

On the other prob you are having...i wouldn't know where to start w/o actually being there and SEEING what is going on.I've never had such a prob w any Luv i've had and there is a number of things i reckon it could be...hopefuly someone will come along that has already had this experience and be able to enlighten you
Good luck  8)

I have never had this problem with my LUV, but i did have this same problem with my parent's '87 GMC Suburban, with the Sub. the problem was with the the ignition key (the thing you put the key into to have acc. and to start the truck) it was worn out and wasen't disengaging when you turned the key to "off". I also had a simuler thing happen with my '88 Trooper (Isuzu, same ppl that made the LUV) same thing the key slot thing wasen't disengaging when i turned the key to "off"
First thing I would do would be to check the key and ignition and make sure they are working right , it may be some thing as simple as a lose wire from the ignition so be sure to check the wires. I hope this helps you out some
