i thought it might be interesting to hear how much everyone paid for their trucks BEFORE they were fixed up. Anyone buying a truck already cherried out can answer, i am just wondering about " dirt bottom". and include a little description about the condition.

cool.

Ill go first. i had a 1986 dodge crew cab one ton dually that was black on black, slammed, tinted windows.... 50,000 miles. got rid of it and saw the little black 1977 step side luv in Sultan wa, at an auto shop. the truck appealed to me cause it was a mini size of what the dodge was, and i dug that dodge. the sign in the window said $1800,. and it was there for a few months. i didnt begin to covet it till i got rid of the dodge. so i stopped in and offered him $1400 and he took it. it was in great shape, daily driver for his college kid.

funny thing is this guy comes runnin in and says , "did you just sell that luv?"

yes.

" *&$#@- !@#$% ^%$ :onfire:

he throws something. like paper or whatever.

Only thing better than buying that truck was seeing that guy get pissed cause he missed out. U snooze, U looze.

i had a plymoth tursimo that i wraped around a tree, so we (me and wifey) bought a 94 4dr cavalier (what im driving now) for her and i started driving her 89 pontiac lemans (her first car too :P ). then i saw the LUV one afternoon sitting at this guys garage who trades vehicals around all the time.
so i stopped and looked, i had had a 81 2wd LUV b4 that i beat the holy hell outta so i knew they was tough.
anyway i traded the guy even the lemans for the truck.
2 days later the timing belt went outta the lemans :) but i swear i had no idea it was going.

wife was a little pissed b/c she cant drive a stick and i traded her car for it

My first one cost me $300 in 1993 bought it to rive back and forth to college. It was a 76 longbed that was rusty as *&%% but ran great and had four bran new tires. About 6 months later I bought my 2nd for $30. It was an 80 shortbed with a blown motor and a cracked winshield. Swapped in my engine and winshield, stripped the 76 of all remaining good parts and halled it off to the bone yard. Put custom buckets in it out a 280Z, that happened to be the same color as my interior, added custom door panels and chopped off the top myself. All for less than $1000. Sold it about a year later when I joined the ARMY. Then just the other day my wife and I were talking about my last LUV and how much I missed it and contemplated buying another one. Well the next day I was going through the local paper and what do I find, a 77 LUV for sale. So I went to look at it. The truck had minimul rust( a little surface rust on the side of the bed and a hole in the driver side rocker panel) and a cracked winshield. The interior was in good shape, Dash and door panels had been covered nicely in tweed. Good tires on turbine style rims, and ran pretty good. So I went home a talked to the wife. Well she bought it for me as an early Christmas present for a total of $450, and I cant wait to see how this one turns out. I've only had it for about 5 days and I already have big plans for it.

My dad gave me my first LUV when I was eight. He bought it in 1984 and drove it until about 1990, and there it sat until 1995. I had the motor rebuilt and painted it, and it was near perfect after that. Total investment... $500

The LUV that's sitting outside now cost me $250 and so far I've sunk about that much into it again, and I still haven't accomplished much.

I paid $2600 for mine (Bone Stock) back in 1982, of course then it was only 6 years old. 20 years and $12,000 later, I get to do it all over again! :? I also paid $800 for a beater 79 around 1988 that went to pieces on me.

my dad bought mine for 6000 back in 1980.
But as for me so far the thing has cost me nothing but labor, i rebuilt the engine and have done all the performance work myself.

Well I first saw mine outside this guys house every weekend and only on the weekends. So I thought it was a pretty cool little truck anyway I was always riding my motorcycle by when one day I finally noticed a for sale sign on it. Well I kept driving by it for about 4 months it was only out there on the weekends. So me and the wife were garage sailing one day and my wife needed change so I go out on the road and happen to see the guy pulling it out into his yard so I ran to the 7-11 and got change for her and we left the garage sale I told her I wanted to check it out cause it was coming up on winter and I didnt want to ride my bike in the cold anymore. So I stopped and checked it out and the guy comes out and starts talking with me, I asked him what was wrong with it? He said in all honesty I cant get the tail lights to work and the fuel pump isnt working right so I have it hard wired to the battery  SO I asked him how much he wanted for it and he said $500 thats all he paid for it and thats all he wanted back. I told him I would be right back. Five minutes later after a quick ATM transaction I was driving it up the road to the house. And after one hour I had her running like a bat outta hell from a much needed tune-up and a quick look at the fuse block fixed the tail lights.

Hey all,
Well it was 3 1/2 years ago and my 87 olds Toronado was getting ready to have the tags run out on it, The thing was costing me 130$ amonth for insurance. So I decided to go and get something cheaper. I remember this older guy who had this faded yellow LUV 4x4. Well I asked around and come to find out that he had died the previous winter (he was 92) so I found who was in charge of the estate. Turned out it was the local D.A.
Well I went to go and talk to him and offered $500 for the truck and I didn't even know if it ran but I wanted it, He laughed and said something about "If I were going to sell it that cheap I would buy it" This guy drives a Red BMW Z3, Who was he kidding? Anyway he was a dick. Found out the old guys only kin live in Ohio, Did some searching got their number gave her a call made the same offer and she said sure that she just wanted to be done with the whole thing bcause her attorney was dragging things out for his own profit. So we decided to screw the middle man, She called the D.A. and said to "Take the money and give that nice young man the keys the title" I was sitting right there in his office and boy was he pissed. So he gave me the title but said he had lost the keys and would have to look for them over the weekend.(this was wednesday).
So monday rolls around nothing Tues I go to see him and he starts with some bulls*** line. I said thats allright and went home called the sister back in Ohio to see if she had gotten the wire transfer from the D.A. She got it thursday,She was a sweet older lady and she asked how the truck was doing, I told what the D.A said bout the Keys, she say's" Well that just won't do will it?" I don't know what she said but within an hour my phone rang and it was the D.A.s secratary telling me I could come get the keys. I went down to the courthouse and the sec told me that her boss was so mad that he had to take the rest of the day off to cool down. Went to go get the truck. It was in a garage covered up took off the cover gotin turned the key fired right up, looked at the odometer 17,349 miles!!! the only thing wrong with it was a BIG dent all down the passenger side but it didn't take any paint with it, 4wd worked like butter, even the a/c worked. Best $500 I ever spent. I know its a long story but but dosen't every LUV have a story?

Dave

I was 15, it was November 1990 and my mom hOOked me up!
I didn't turn 16 until February.
she found the truck in the paper and it was at an alternator shop.
we went to look at it and I fell in LUV, so she gave him $900 and we drove it home.
it came with a white 77 parts truck too! we had to go get that one on a trailer.

When we got it home I went to cleaning on it. this thing had leaves EVERYWHERE!!!! it had leaves in the GLOVE BOX!!!!!!!!!

Anyway by the end of December I had carpet in it, a Grant steering wheel, hub caps as well as other do dads and it was clean.
I had lowered it by mid 16 and had western 10 hole wheels on it too.

I love that truck.

I traded a rusted beyond saving 70 nova and $500 for a chopped and lowered 79 luv. It was in black primer. Everything else was stock. After about two years it developed a short in the dash that effected the brake lights. I was young and not very mechanicly sure so I sold it. That was about fifteen years ago and I just want to kick my own ass every time I think about the day I sold it. Now Im trying to sell a project car so I can buy another luv.

lol.. I though i was bad having 3 right now.. lol

1980- 4x4 Luv White Dec 2001
1979 - 4x4 Luv Yellow Dec 2001
1980- 4x4 Luv Blue Nov 2002

hmm.. some kinda of strange pattern here...

I bought the 79 and 80 for $700 for the pair... I was told both were running when they where parked. The White 80 fired up and then threw a rod about a month later. 79 never recovered, it was rusted bad.. guted the cab and hauled it away. Kept frame and Bed. The White 80 is in the middle of a Build up, a 2.8 or 350 depends on how I feel about the 2.8. The 1980 Blue one is completely stock except the rims (Toyotas) and the radio (got have a CD player). Probably end up selling it to my brother when he returns from Japan. On his final year in the Marines, stationed there.
None of these are street legal. The blue 80 is the closest. Not registerd since 2000. May slide by on the Smog. Wish me Luck!
