any of the small DIN size radio will fit. I have a Cd player in my 80. My speakers are hidden in the truck, only the radio can be seen. A home built sub box with 2 10 inch subs behind the seat. It really rocks and I have surprising little money in it.

you could do what ive seen alot of older show cars have done....leave the stock stero in place and mount a modern cd player in the glove box.

I would like to see some pics of that. I've been thinking of putting in buckets and building a center console that would house my stereo. Anyone done anything like that?

I have a Clairon head unit in my '80 ,looks like it came with it from the factory. any DIN size head unit will fit, you just need to get creative with the wiring to make it all work right. Im not sure but, i don't think they make a wiring adaptor like the one's they sell at wal-mart for other cars. but i don't think it would be too difficult, just get your hands on a wiring diagram for the truck and you should have very few if any problems. Hope that helps ya a little

I have a Pioneer 45X4 head unit fitted in the dash where the stock radio goes, with a 400X2 amp going to two 11'' JL Audio Subs and a 200X2 amp going to the door speakers...6.5in db midranges (my budget kinda ran out) plus deck power, of course. The subs are located behind the seats in a homemade box (from tha ghetto, baby), and the amps are under the seats... only problem is, it rattles like a can of nails!!! At first i thought it was my subs, till i turned on the subsonic filter, but turns out its the whole truck!!

If ya want it done right, you gotta do it yourself!!! I have an old alpine pull out, an alpine 6 disc changer mounted to the tray on the passenger side and 2 bridged amps mounted on each kick panel and 2 10 inch subs behind the seats (no pics though :? ), still got to mount some mids and high up front somewhere (kind of pointless now since I dont drive it). But once you know the basics of stereos, it is pretty easy to do most anything. I hate having other people do stuff for my vehicles as they never do it the way I want it. When I showed the guys at Car Toys my setup in my S10, they were pretty impressed and I had to half ass the monitor enclosure as I was running out of time for the big truck show here. I am still going to make a fiberglass console for my monitor that forms to the lines of the interior of the truck.

Looks good Tilted.
I do all of my own install work as well, it's really not all that hard to hook everything up.
My problem has always been making it look really good, but oh well!!.

the head unit and speakers were put in by a audio shop when my grandpa still had the truck, the speakers are all right in the front kick panels as they are Clairon 4" 3 ways, but the one's in the back of the cab are some el cheapo 3" jobies, i will be replacing these w/ some more Clairon speakers, and maybe an amp or two, but over all it was installed pretty good ( after i got the truck i was able to get a new speaker for the original spot in the middle of the dash on top, i'm gona connect this in w/ the rest of the system so i'll have 5 speakers all togather in the cab)

I just finished installing a new sound system in my 1980 LUV.
IF?
You are installing a new stereo head DIN & new speakers.
The only wire you from the factory wiring harness is the blue wire that comes out of the original radio plug. The blue wire is the cut off from the ignition key switch.

Everything else should be new.
I highly recommend that you draw power directly from the battery using the supplied
in line fuse. A good ground for your stereo is the screw that holds in the package shelf under the dash. (The left one is perfect for this.)

I can't wait to get my sound system installed (my engine...shit everything else, comes first). Two 10" rockford Power HX2 (1000w RMS each) , two rockford 1000.1bd amps, two rockford dash speakers, door speakers, and of cource a rockford deck.....(can't tell I like Rockford Fosgae can you?!)
