I believe it was JessMN that asked "if she should say something to her insurance about swappin the 4 banger to a V8" I believe most of us said "NO". Well I was talkin to my wife, and one of her friends dad had gotten into a wreck the other day in a hot rod [not sure exactly what kind] but he had done a swap of some kind, and had not told his insurance about it. Well sure as shit, his insurance didn't cover any of it, because he modified his car without letting them know. So I thought I would share that story, and when mine is done, I think I will go ahead and let my insurance know.

i still think if you pay your premiums ,the insurance company has to pay....thats the first I have ever heard of it......they might cancel you but they gotta pay..in my opinion...plus unless there was damage done to the motor.etc what diff would it make?in my state u can get 'antique tags'..says you can drive 5000 miles or less..no inspection, stickers etc...just a tag.and this opens you up to mods on your vehicle without insurance hassles,,has to be 25 years old ..just a thought.,at the cruise in i was at,must have been 20 cars with no tags,nothing...i was wondering if they had ANY insurance but they were antiques..if thats the case all the hondas, toys, nissans .stangs etc that go with the ground effects packages...do you think there insurance company is informed.i think not.=they will pay for any damages but stock patrts=rest up to you...i just feel the insurance company WILL be responsible for some of it,its inevitable.....fixing up or altering your vehicle is NOT fraud..its the american way...........

well maybe when it comes to something like, a stock luv is gonna top out at say 90mph or so, but with a V8 it might get put in another type class, say a sports car kinda class or something. I will try to find out more about my wifes friends dads car, or truck. Whatever it was.

It seems to me when I have gotten insurance on any of my vehicles in the past, they have asked what size motor you have, so if you told them a 4 banger, and you had a V8, then maybe thats where they would get you.

hrm yes I would definitely like to know. My insurance wants $180 a month for my luv, and I am pretty sure my dad told them it was stock. I wonder what it'd be if I told them it had a v8?! 8O 8O

I am thinking about getting some sort of collector car insurance on the luv. Since I'll be at school most of the year, I'll only drive my luv on weekends that I go home (not often) and next summer. I've heard some collector car insurance is pretty cheap, I wonder if I could get it?

damn...you need a new insurance company...mine is only $34 a month (liability). The insurance company told me that if I was to do Full coverage, that because they don't make parts for the LUV any more it would cost me $243 a month.

yeah I said $180 a month. I'm 19, plus according to the insurance company, my brothers (16 and 19) have access to it. I won't let them drive it, but that still makes the insurance go up. I'll have to try progressive, I've got Allstate right now. I'll give them a call tomorrow, 'cause $180 really sucks.

We have liability only on both our luvs - one 2wd one 4x4 - and we pay less than $50 a month (myself and my 18 year old son) for both trucks. We opted out on the full coverage due to costs because my insurance agent said all they'd pay was book value if anything happened - don't think book value gives us a whole lot. But, what they did say, was once we got them how we wanted them, fully restored/modified (including 350 in the 2wd) we should have them appraised, take pictures, and then the insurance company will insure the "appraised value" if we go to full coverage. So, that's what we're going to do. Once both trucks are modified and finished, we'll get them appraised and either go with our current agent or to a "collector" policy which is supposed to be reasonable. We too have antigue tags and are exempt from inspections, etc. Must be 79 or older though to get the tags.
