Look into Isuzu pickups for power steering parts. I know it has been done with 4x4 LUVs using parts from an Isuzu Trooper (84-86, mid 87 on had fairly different parts up front) and I think that could be adapted to a 2WD LUV, but it might be easier to go from a 2WD Isuzu pickup from 83-86 or so.

tHANKS FOR THE INFO. i'LL TRY ISUZU'S. ANOTHER QUESTION--HOW WILL I MOUNT THE POWER STEERING PUMP IF I HAVE TO USE THE SHORT WATER PUMP and the ALTERNATOR THAT GOES ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE?

BeetleVH did a conversion on his luv, he's the only one I know of who's done it.

The post is here.. http://forums.luvtruck.com/viewtopic.php?p=15148#15148

mounting the pump is going to be a custom fit if you are putting in on a 350. BeetleVH did it on a stock motor and ended up using the smog pump brackets, but on a V8 you'll have to get creative I think.

First off welcome to the site!!!! I think it's great that you, and your son are gonna tackle the V8 swap together. It will be memorable, I am sure. As far as the power steering goes.I am just finishing my V8 swap and by lookin at things, I dont think your gonna have room, unless you were to set the motor way back. I mean, cutting out the fire wall, and doing some major customizing. I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time   By the way,why do you want power steering? When you are moving, even at 5mph, the luv will turn pretty easy, even with a sbc350. MY .02 :D

The truck used to be stiff in steering it. I guess it would help to grease all the front end. If you recommend not to even attempt it I wont. You may have some kind of trick of the trade to share with me in making it "steer-friendly".

The wider the tire, the tougher it will be to steer, but it shouldn't be so tough that its not even fun to drive. maybe some grease might help. Your not just used to having power steering are you

Hey there, been a long time since I've been around. I know this post is old but I wanted to pitch in my 2 cents as well. The general rule of thumb is if your suspension is stock LUV right now then you can do the swap as easily as I outlined in my other posts, which drummer pointed a link to. Use the parts that I used, not any S-10 stuff because it just won't work without more mods.

The only place you're going to have to go different from what I did is at the pump. I used the original Isuzu pump and mounted it to my motor using a combination of brackets that mounts the air pump to an Isuzu engine. My advice for anyone who has stock LUV suspension with a different motor and wants to go to power steering is to use the Isuzu power steering pump and have a bracket custom made to mount it to your motor. This is the cheapest and most reliable method and it will work like stock.

Finally, I have to say once again that having power steering is definately worth it. Theres just no excuse in my book for anyone to put the money and time involved in swapping in a 350 V-8 and not go the extra step. You won't regret it... :D
