Hey every 1, i need some help from you v8 guys, i may be able to get my hands on a 350 small block out of a '91 CHevy fullsize 4x4, it has TBI fuel injection. the truck it is in has a 5 speed manual. my question is: is it posible to put this engine into my LUV, AND keep the stock 4 speed manual tranny, rear diff, and transfer case. money is very tight so i'm trying to make this work on a very limited buget (i'm a college student)
The LUV is going to be used as a daily driver, and offroad every now and then. I'm not planing on building a 10 sec. drag truck, just something that will be a good daily driver, that can cruise on the freeway, and cruise up the big hill from Phoenix, AZ to Flagstaff,AZ ( BIG hill) at 75 to 80 mph.
Im only planing on a few power upgrades (k&n filter, accel ignition, hooker headers, minor stuff like that) i'm not looking for a huge amount of power( just about 250 to 280hp), oh and i do use this truck off road :D
oh and it has factory a/c that would like to keep( AZ weather is pretty hot)

Short answer: no

Stock trans will not bolt to a V8 of any kind that I know of. If it did, you probably would not want to do it anyway as the HP of a bigger motor would likely send parts of the trans through the floorboards. Moving out to the diffs/axles you are also going to have issues there with power. The rear can hold up for a while, but the front is less tolerant.

If you think you want to go this route, you will need at least a motor and trans. If the trans doesn't have a right side front drive shaft, you either need a different trans or will need to go to a soild axle that will match up. I've also heard that for a motor swap you can basically figure out your budget, then double or triple it to arrive at the actual cost when you are done.

I agree with 800xl. If you browse through some of the previous posts on this topic (4x4 V-8 swaps) then you'll begin to get the picture that you're dealing with an entirely different animal when it comes to swapping any motor into a 4x4 LUV. Trust me, as a fellow 4x4 nut I feel your pain. The best advice I can give you is save EVERY dime you are planning on spending on this truck for the swap. This gives you enough time to do the research on it in the meantime as well. Spending a couple bucks here and there on something cool you saw for your truck can be justified in the short term but believe me, that adds up and pushes your swap dreams further away.
