OK Jess, the girls have to stick together. My 79 Luv longbed has a 229 and my son has been after me to put a 350 in it. Guess now I'll have to cave in and put in a 350. Do you know what rear end was put in your truck? And, one last question, does yours have an electric fan? I do luv to drive my luv - even though it's just a 229 - I love the looks I get!! Can't wait to get those 350 looks!!!

nope the one I've got is like a flex-a-lite fan, I forget what they're called.

What is a 229? I've never heard of one.

the rear end in my truck is (I think) 3.31 limited slip rear end. It's out of a later model pontiac, I'm not sure what.

no I don't have an electric fan, but I'd like one! lol

Jess your rear end is a limited slip posi and it com out of a pontiac fire bird. and like mine the rean end has never been narrowed it is the stock size.... also Id like to welcome MJ Boyd to the group

Jess, I said exactly what you did when I heard 229. It's basically a 350 block but has only 6 cylinders instead of 8. They came out in 80-84 and are in mostly monte carlos and el caminos. It hauls down the road in my little Luv but the 350 will haul even better. My son bought the truck from a scrap yard for $65.00 - yes $65.00 - and someone had TRIED to put the 229 in it. They didn't know what they were doing but my son straightened everything out and it's been running every since. I have more in the wheels and tires than I have in the entire truck - I LUV it!! We're thinking about putting a 411 rear end under mine from an S10 blazer. Never thought about a firebird lining up. Oh girl, why did you post your truck - I've got the 350 bug bad now!!!
