Hello to all....I'm a new user and this is my first post. I love this site :D . I didn't even know it existed until a few weeks ago. I've found lots of helpful information here. I'm in the process of fixing some things on my 1980 Luv. It's all stock (4 cyl., 4-sp., etc.). My speedo cable is broken and I have been looking for a new one to replace it. However, I have run into problems. I ordered one from a link I found on this site but they sent me back an e-mail telling me the product was out of stock and cacelled my order :( . I have looked online for a new cable but have been unable to find one. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know where I can find a new speedo cable? Thanks in advace,

mississippi

Welcome to the site.

You can hit some boneyards, or I can see if there is one in a local yard around here for the cost plus shipping. I generally go on the weekends. It is an hour drive.

First off, thanks to all who have replied. I really appreciate it. :D I have called a few salvage yards around here and most don't even have any luvs. I also talked to a buddy of mine and he said he knew a guy that had a couple of trucks that he had bought for parts, so I think we're going over there this weekend to find out if he has a speedo cable. Hopefully I will get lucky. If not, then I will either get one from Autozone or contact you, Lil Blue. Thanks again,

mississippi

the local parts store here has a universal one that you cut to fit.

I thought about one of the universal cables, but I didn't know how much of a pain they would be to cut and install. I think I could figure out a way to screw it up. Anybody ever used one of these? Did you have any trouble?

Since the Isuzu trooper tranny bolts to the Luv's 1.8. I think the Troopers speedo might work. Not sure on the length though. Maybe 800xl woud
know?

Oh yea, and I agree with Larp. There are some parts you dont want to buy used unless you have to. One time I saw this guy in the wrecking yard buy spark plugs!

I have used one of the universal cables from the Zone. Not bad for the price. Pretty easy to install. I would go with that since it is a new part for pocket change.

The speedo for the Trooper (4 cyl.) will more than likely hook up, but there are different gears for different applications. That's where the snag will be because the speedo won't read right with the wrong gears. I would go NEW universal...

...and welcome to the site.

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone :D . Probably what I am going to do is take a look at the used one this weekend and see what kind of shape it's in. If it looks good and it's not pricey, I'll probably go with it just 'cause it would be easy to swap out. If it doesn't look good, then I will probably go universal just b/c it's so much cheaper. Thanks again to all who have replied.

I went to Autozone and asked about my options for speedo cable replacement. They showed a new one in their system, but told me they would no longer be able to order it b/c it was out of stock and they wouldn't carry it anymore. :( It is the one on their site for like $33 or something like that. I then asked about the universal cable. IT was more like $7. The guy at the counter went and got it but I compared it to the original and the tips were different (the end that attaches underneath the truck). Their universal cable will not work as far as I know. :(

I then found one at NAPA. Brand new, installed it, works great.. :D ..It was only $16.. :D ..I thought this might help someone out who runs into this problem.
