When I did my clutch I had to pull the motor to get it out, I have an 80 LUV 4x4. But some people say they've been able to change it without any problems whatsoever with the same setup as me so I'm not sure.

As I had said when i delivered trans to you....Engine must be moved as far forward as possible in order to get tail-shaft of trans the clearing it needs to pass the cross-member. if i wasnt so busy this weekend i would run down an give ya a hand w that.

If I lived in either Oregon, or Texas I would help anyone out that had problems. There's only two other members from utah and I doubt they even still have the trucks.

yes i know and i still feel bad about showing up so late and I wish ya all the luck w it. But if you are doing this alone, let me know if you dont succeed by next weekend then perhaps i could get there and help you w that, because luvs do get frustrating sometimes but I have had so many of them apart and back together agin that ive lost count. last two engines I dropped in alone in matter of couple hours w/o even breakin a sweat. 8)

I had some spark plug holes to fix on mine at the time so when I did the clutch I did that and instally new engine gaskets, "no torque wrench" to my and my ten oil leaks bitter disappointment.

Its just as easy to pull the engine out as it is to slide it forward. Im thinkin of loadin up my hoist (if he doesnt have one) and go see him next weekend and give him a hand. Then he could go ahead and give the engine a good detailing at same time. 8)

When I removed my 4x4 transmisison I removed the clutch and took off some of the exhuast pipe hangers. In the manule is says you have to rotate the tranny so it will clear the crossmember.

With the removalve crossmember i have for my 5speed, it make it a lot
easier to get it out.

mine came out without moving the engine (80 4x4) but mine does have a 3 in. body lift so that might give it extra clearance to let it twist out. where do you live? anywhere near houston?

DO NOT FORGET.......put gear oil in transmission :!: On Passenger side of trans you find a rather large head bolt( I cant remember what size even though i just did mine b4 coming down there)......but pull it and gear oil goes in there, best way is this: take a piece of garden hose or something similiar to that and stick in the trans and have enough to run up thru floor-board thru hole where 4wd stick is and pour in from there, otherwise bottles are hard fit up under truck and you will just get oil every where except where you want it. 8O Do this AFTER you are all bolted back in w drive-line in place.
Im happy to hear that all has worked out so far for you but if you run into any more trouble, just contact me one way or another i will be happy to help all I can :D 8) Duane
PS Yes there are some pretty helpful guys on here, I think a couple others were thinking of coming to help you besides myself. 8)
