the blinker in my 76 is acting a little strange. It works fine until i pull the knob for the lights. Then the right turn signal will come on but not blink. The left still works ok. Turn the lights off, everything back to normal.
Ideas?

i had the same problem in a 78 chevy silverado, the owner before me had taken a diesel out and put a olds 350 in. caused all kinds of wiring issues.

when i bought it i had to track all the wiring down and find what caused it. it was a bad ground (at the blinker in the rear)and with the headlights on the weak current running through the blinker couldn't trip the blink relay. the truck had a charging issue also which was fixed with a new alternator at the time.

check all the bulbs too as the chevy relay won't blink when there's not enough draw on the relay either.

I used to have a similar odd problem in my 77. Every once in a while (like once every 3-4 months) the blinker would stop working except for one direction and even then it would only blink once. I figured out somehow that by leaving the turn signal on, then turning the emergency flasher switch on for a couple flashes and back off again, the problem would go away for another few months. I never did find out what caused it, but I think after rewiring my rear light harness (dumbass thief chopped it stealing my taillight) it has never come back. I recall reworking the bed ground when I did that so perhaps that was the trouble.

Could be the taillights and running lights are somehow grounding back through the flasher circuit instead of to the bed/frame. When they are off, things appear to work, when they are on things go funky.
