 Post subject: LUV wont idle

i got a 78 luv an i can crank it up it will start an idle fine an i can drive it down the road fine but whenever i come up to a stopsign ango to stop i'll hit the clutch an as soon as i do the engine dies an i can start it right back up an take off again no probs but when igo to stop again it'll die, i checked the carb out as best i could its got a carter carb on it i check the high an low idle, the choke linkage, the mixture settings filter everything if anybodys got any ideas please help i love this truck an my family will make me get rid of it if i cant get it runnin right

Since you've checked out alot of things, i'm lead to think that you have an air leak somewhere. By pushing on the brake pedal, the extra vacuum loss is causing the motor to die. That's if the problem happens when you apply the brakes and not when you press on the clutch. If it somehow was clutch related, the motor would die right off when you would try and put it in to gear. Remove the air cleaner assy and with the motor running at idle, try and cover the carb opening with your hand slowly. If the motor rpm's climb as you almost totally cover the carb, you have an air leak. If you close off the opening fully and the motor dies, you dont have an air leak. Try that out and see if were on the right track.

thanks blue meanie it was a vaccum leak the line that goes to the brake booster had a crack in it went to the parts store an got a new one an the truck is doin much better now thanks alot for the help------ peace out
