You can do it and there are places on the web like ackits.com that'll sell you more or less universal kits and parts for putting a/c in your luv. There are a couple problems with doing that though, ac is a lot more complicated than most people realize. Aside from just finding or making the bracket for the compresser, condenser, evaporator and such, there are usually a good few switches and sensors that have to go in (i.e. low/high pressure switches, compressor clutch cycling switch, idle adjustment, etc). Who knows, you may ever have to get some custome high pressure hoses made too. Then once everything is on there you have to put vacuum to it to demosturize and make sure it holds and there are no leaks.
I'm not trying to discourage you, but it can get very very expensive by the time you're done. You will definately need to take it to an ac shop after you get everything on there so that they can do the vacuum for you unless you have the equipment to do that at home. If your engine is sound and carb is in good condition it'll be able to handle the compressor clutch kick on and off. If not, you'll stall everytime your a/c kicks in. However, if you have the time, cash, and patience to do it right then I say go for it. My advice, buy a Haynes manual or something on just a/c work and you'll get an idea as to what equipment you'll need and whats involved. Hope that helped...
