Sand blast or grind them, and either use body filler or prime the spots and use glazing putty. Depends on how big and deep they are.

the holes are too deep to be sand blasted smooth. I would need some thing to fill in the pits instead of trying to sand teh other area down to the pits. The pits are very tiny, but give teh body a very rough ugly look. Something to fill in the pits is what i need.

My truck has extensive pitting and rust in the bed. I talked to a local shop the does spray-in bed liners and they said they could make it better. It's definetly better but the surface shows were the pitting is. Overall, i can live with this just fine. It's way better than it was and i didn't spend days trying to remove all of the rust. The only thing is that i had to get some paint touched up on the truck well after i had the liner sprayed in and i have overspray on the liner. The liner cost me 350.00 total. For me, it was worth the money to get away from the problem.

thats exactly what i'm doin. i could live with it. as long as there was no big ass holes i'd be alright. i'm plannin on spraying everything on mine..
even on the back of the fenders, hood, doors and the back of my front bumper.
Do you know if it would throw off my alighnment if i did my control arms, suspension, etc?

It shouldn't affect the alignment but that seems like overkill. Have you hear of anyone doing this? If so, was it worth it to them? Whether you spray paint or coating, you'll still need to clean everything well. Once it's clean enough, paint seems like a smoother way to go. Cheaper too.

Here are some pictures of the rust pits I'm talking about. What do I need to fix them so the surface is smooth?

This is the fender:

The first thing you want to do is to spot blast to get all of the rust off. Then fill in the pits with a filler I would use glazing putting because its easier to use than bondo. The biggest mistake people make is not sealing it quick enough. If you're not going to paint it right away use a sealer primer insted of plain primer. The sealer primer keeps out moisture like paint does. Most primers will alow moisturein and the rust will start right back.
