a dash cap is just the top of the dash.
you have to cut the top off then glue the new top on 8)

I just got one a couple months ago from JC Whitney. All you do is apply the supplied glue on the original dash surface and lay the cap over it. Dont have to remove any material as long as your original pad isnt lifting or curling up. The cap sort of raps around that top edge of the dash on the front. I havent installed mine permanently yet as Im still indecisive about smoothing and painting it or rapping some fabric over it. Or just leaving it black and gluing it in. For the money I think its a great idea. Hell of alot cheaper and easier than buying and installing the whole repro. pad also.

I would if I could. Before I got one I asked for photos here. Do a search for them. I think I got two or three replies.

You need to cut or scrape the parts of the dash that are sticking up before you cap it. I would think thats why they are called caps because they just cover the top.

So this new dash cap goes over the old remains instead of replaceing it? That's ok and all but what am I supposed to do about the bottom half since it is faded pretty bad and there will be a huge color differnce?

At a junkyard I saw a cover that fit over the top of the dash, kinda like a car cover to a car. A good portion of my dash near the windsheild is curling up. I wonder if I would have to take out some of that and then somehow add bracing in there to support the cap.

Yes. At the moment part of that area on my dash is missing already. And the egdes were sticking up until I glued them down. Now I have to place something in the void as you can see the hole from the outside with the dash cap on. Thinking Ill get some of that florist/craft foam and widdle it down to shape.

So i found a dash cap at http://www.topsonline.com/en-us/dept_237.html
could you look to see if this would work for me? Will I need to remove the old dash to install this one or will this one fit over the old one? And you said i could get vynil dye for the bottom half. Have you used dye before and will it have good results?

Yes that will work. It looks like the exact same one that I paid more for. And yes Ive used dyes for about 14 years while detailing cars. We use it for carpets mostly, but ocasionaly a door panel or seat. Just think of it as regular spray paint in a can. Use a couple light coats and its all good. And dont be cheap. It only costs a couple bucks more for a good quality dye. Mar Hyde is good and I think Rustolium has a dye out now also. Just stay away from store brand ones that will just end up peeling off in a few years.

Thaks for your answer, but will this one fit over the old dash or will I need to remove the old one to install the new one?
