Still on the never ending quest for a good rearend, anyone ever use a Dana 44? I found one from a Jeep TJ, with a locker and heavy axles. I don't know how wide it is but the jeep would have to be pretty close?
I think the pinion is offset though? Any thoughts out there?

dana 44 is a good rear end. stands up to quite a bit of horsepower(8.5" ring gear, used on trucks like IH scouts and wagoneers powered by 401s from the factory) and has a massive aftermarket support because it's been used in just about everything.

if you mean "offset pinion" as the pumpkin is centered but the pinion itself looks offset, don't sweat it. that's what u-joints are for TJs have a centered axle afaik, so it shouldn't be a problem

don't quote me, but i think a TJ axle has a 59" or 60" WMS, so it should fit under a luv pretty nicely

i think your only issue is going to be welding on spring pads, which should be a piece of cake if you know what you're doing. there's none on a TJ axle, since they're coil sprung from the factory

if you want big heavy duty masive axel get a dana 60 for the rear that is a comin thing for jeepers to do dana 60 rear and dana 44 up front.

d60 is a great axle, but probably overkill unless you're crawling the hammers or putting 1000hp to the ground(or both!)

Thanks, correct me if I'm wrong, but; being the stock luv rear is 53 3/4-54" wide, something 59-60 should work fine with say a 15x7 w/5 1/2 backspacing?
That should put the wheels/tires right at the edge of the fenders?

5 1/2 backspacing should work no problem. i think you have to account for stock backspacing as well, though

the way i play i need the d60 or i would be breakin shit left and right

got a 44 under the rear of mine, gridn the weld son the sprign perches re weld em closer together, and botl it on... its that simple. Mines offset also, wasnt enough to worry me. But im runnin a differnt tacse now and that fixes it. No need at all for a 60, on a luv unless its runnin around 38 or bigger tires, and I doubt yours is. 44, is near the strength of a 9inch, and should be fine. im runnin 200 hp, with a 500 to 1 crawl ration on a 44 and its just fine.
