If you are diving into a motor rebuild then at least a Haynes or Chilton manual would be almost a requirement. Compared to the costs of parts for the motor the $15 or so the repair manual costs is money well spent. Check local auto parts stores for them.

Even better would be a factory repair manual. They come up fairly regular on eBay and I think I've seen a couple places online that deal in used/old stock factory manuals as well. Search ebay for "chevy luv manual" and you should come up with a few hits.

800XL, do you have the VAC diagrams with your service manual? I need them for a 76, but also need them for an 80.

.254 clearance for the exhaust? Is that right? Thats more than 1/4" clearance! I thought the clearances were like .008/ intake and .010 for the exhaust.

From the Haynes manual:
(In ft/lbs)
Main bearing cap bolts: 72
Connecting Rod bearing cap bolts: 33

From the factory 79 manual:
Main bearing cap bolts: 72
Connecting Rod bearing cap bolts: 43

Dunno which is right on those con rod caps, Clymer and Haynes agree at 33, but the 43 the factory manual shows is about the same as the 44ish shown in my factory 86 Trooper book for the 2.3L motor. I know its not the same motor, but I thought I'd just acknowledge the fact that the numbers agree on the two motors. (Which are similar)

On the head torque, Haynes and the factory book show initial of 61, final of 72. Best to torque them in stages.

For valves I have .006 for intake and .010 for exhaust measured between the valve stem and the rocker arm (not rocker/cam as Haynes manual states, factory manual shows same numbers but says the right place to check). This is the low temp reading so do it cold and I have not seen a number for doing it warmed up.

The factory 79 manual does have several diagrams of vac hose routing, but they are broken up into sections for different systems. They don't have the overall diagram you find on the hood if it hasn't been painted over or sanded off. At least, I have not found it yet.

Sure is. I thought it was too big. Not a 1/4" but MM.

I might have got the numbers transposed though.
