Some people are telling me to put a 5 lug camero rear end under my LUV I was wondering if this is a good idea?

the thing is, you'll still have a 6 lug front end

i think the best of the best for the street would be a ford 9" or an 8.8. the 8.8s are cheaper than dirt nowadays, and stand up to 300hp pretty well without upgrades

I think I remeber reading somewhere on here, that a Camaro Rear is just the right width for the LUV. Don't quote me, and maybe someone can back me up, but I do believe that is why they are used.

Camaro, Nova, Chevelle,8.8 and 9s are all wider. Closest match is an 8" out of a Maverick, Pinto or Comet. A fella just posted some pics of his Luv with I think it was a Nova rear. He used Corvette wheels with a very deep rear spacing and the tires were sticking out what looked like an inch or two. If you dont want to tuck your rear wheels you can put anthing under it. I found two 8"s for $40 a peice about 30 miles from where I live on a Maverick website. I bought both of them.

I have a 9" in my LUV and it just fits. It will require a lot of backspacing on the wheels to go any wider. The outer edge of the tire are just even with the side of my rear fenders. It is out of an older Falcon.

if i were to use an 8" rear for an upgrade to a LUV, i'd find one out of a 2wd toyota 1 ton pickup, then swap in 4x4 axle shafts from an '85 or earlier truck to keep the 6 lug pattern(2wds are 5 lug).

this way, you keep 1.3" axle shafts and have a decent 8" ring gear that can hold up to good amounts of abuse, especially in something as light as a LUV

Gotta agree with BigHappy on the Nova rearend for sure. The tires stuck out a good 1-1/2" ... but back then it didn't matter because the fender flares made up for it.

i use the nova rear. it is a factory 8.5 10 bolt with 3.42 gears and factory posi.with the early vette wheels they stick out about 2" on each side. it was a cheap alternative for me (got it at a $25 all you can carry day at local salvage yard). i plan on getting my narrowed 12 bolt built when i get the money. but the 10 bolt came out of a 454 equiped car so i feel it will more than handle my 350. i had to weld a spring perch on each side so it would bolt up. i will get some pictures of it up tonight or tomorrow for ya. like i said though it does stick out some. the flat part where the rim sets on the brake drum is almost even with the outside of the fenders.

hate to say it but the sticking out is starting to grow on me a little but it slings water all over the side and in the bed. here is a link to the pictures that were reffered to earlier.

The early 8" Ford's are 56 1/2" wide wheel flange to wheel flange.Would work good in a stock truck being it is only 1 1/2" wider per side than stock LUV rearend.
