The problem that would arise is that the wheels would spin in the opposite direction. If you could relocate the vent pipe and flip the axle around it could work if you're willing to mod the axle to adapt steering components. It seems like too much work to me.

I think steering would be the issue there. With a solid axle from diff to hub, that would be a big problem to overcome. That is, unless you are talking more like swapping the differential. In that case, get a 88 or newer Trooper front axle and IFS assembly. Basically the same diff used in the LUV rear became the front for most Isuzus made after 88.

One word James..... JEEP...... A straight axle out of a Jeep Wagoneer/Grand/Cherokee fits under the luv perfectly. We just did that swap on my friends truck. What you need to do is get a leaf spring set (leafs, hangers, shackles, extra bushings, U-bolts, and perches) and build a spring system up front, this would not only give you more options for lifting it, but it would also get rid of those ugly torsion bars...... I will go up there and take a couple of pictures of what has been done to his and will try to get them on my Y! photo album by tonight....... once again.... DO NOT TRY TO MODIFY A REAR END AS A FRONT...... GO JEEP..... And while your at it, just so you have no problem with gearing differences between the front and back, get the rear end from the same Jeep as the front......

toy axles would be easier...they aren't as wide as a jeep cherokee axle, and CJ fronts are dana 30, aka junk

however, jeep axles are probably easier to come by and cheaper

and as to the "don't modify a rear end as a front", tell that to the guys running ford 9s in the front with dana 60 outers :P

What I've heard from the Isuzu crowd is that the D44 used in Jeep Wagoneers is the one to get. Just about the right track width and strong enough for most people's wheeling adventures. Toyota is a good option, but seems like there are more people looking for them and demand equals higher prices.

When it gets into custom built front axles like a ford 9/dana 60 you're talking about a whole different ballgame. Sure it can be done and is done, but at considerable cost, probably more that I've spent on any of my LUVs total. ;) Now what would be fun to me is putting a front axle in the rear and setting up 4 wheel steering.

Well if you have enough money to have a used rear set up to steer, then just buy all new front parts through any 4x4 mag. As for the jeep parts, I didnt mean cj. I mean what 800xl said as the wagoneers. They are called different things even though they are the same (wagoneer, grand cherokee, cherokee) The older cherokees not the newer ones and not the cj series jeeps. But for the cost of having the axles and tube set up, you can get a matching set for front and back....

Its a 74 jeep wagoneer with the 401 engine starts and runs but needs a rebuild, has the d44 axles, quadra trac 4x4 with high and low, auto trans. no rust, I was hoping to get around 1500 for the whole rig.. :D
