I have a question about the S-10 rearends. In JEG's they carry the ring & pinion gears and below where it says 7 1/2 it has 27 spline. Then on the next page where they have the differentials under the Auburn ones it lists two different differentials. One for a 26 spline and one for the 28 spline.

My question is this...........the "27 spline for the ring & pinion" Is that the splines on the axles or just on the pinion? Or do they come with 27 spline axles and you have to buy 26 or 28 spline axles before you can use the Auburn differentials?

definitely splines on the axle. are you planning on setting gears up yourself? are you experienced in doing it? if not, you should have somebody who knows what they're doing teach you how...it seems rather difficult and you have to do a lot of eyeballing to get it done right

imho, s10 rears aren't exactly the best tool for the job. in the offroad world, they're typically avoided like the plague

It is listing the spine for the yoke on the pinion with the ring and pinion section. The carrier and /or axle gears would determine the axle spline. Sometimes the pinion is available with different spline, but the S-10 probably was just one spline.

Thanks for the info guys..........I know some of the stuff I ask may sound stupid but I am new to the Chevy world. It can all be a little confusing until I get some experience under my belt.
