you need to create an account at a photo hosting site....I use http://www.ripway.com . Create a free account, upload your pictures, and when the list of the pics you've uploaded shows up, there'll be a web address. Put that in the space on the profile page where it asks you for your own avatar. That should work. Just make sure it's 80 x 80 pixels, I think is the requirement. If you need to adjust the size, I take my pics into paint, adobe photoshop or microsoft photoshop and adjust it there. In paint, you can open the pic, click "image", and you can change the size under "stretch/skew". Then you can check up on the pixel size under "images" and then "attributes". If you go straight to "attributes" and then ask it to size it to 80x80, it won't size the pic the way you want it. at least that is my experience. I don't know much about computer stuff, I have just figured this out on my own, so I hope it's right!
that's from when I helped someone else put their pic in.

one note, the ripway takes pics from your computer, so if the picture you want as your avatar is from the Web, you need to right click and save it to your pictures file. Then when ripway goes to that file, it'll be there for you to choose from.
