I have a 82 LUV diesel that drips oil from a black hose that is attached to a metal unit on the side of the engine by the oil filter. On the inlet side of the unit the hose comes from the oil pan below. What can I do to stop this drip. It only leaks after the motor has been running then stops. But it leaves a mess on the garage floor. What is the purpose of this hose? Is it a relief vent for the oil pan? Otherwise everything is running great at 184,000 miles.

If I am not mistaken that is the blowby hose.......it means that you have blowby like any diesel mine has done it since the day I bought it.....

I have a 1987 Toyota 1-ton, dual wheel truck that has the 22RE engine in it. The 22RE is tired, so I want to get a 2.4 Toyota diesel to drop in the truck, but most likely the 2L-T engine will suit it best because of the turbocharger. I'm guessing your 84 truck has the 2L, which is just the 2.4 non-turbo. How does the Toyota diesel compare to the LUV diesel in acceleration and mileage? Also, is your Toyota a 4WD or 2WD?

My LUV gets a little bit better fuel economy but slower than the Toyota. The 2.4 in the Toyota is quicker and has more power than the 2.2 in the LUV.

I don't know if you have a member name here at LUVTruck, but I couldn't email or private message you. Since you posted as a guest it leaves me to just try to reply to this message and hope you see it. Would you be interested in selling your 84 Toyota diesel pickup? Thanks and I appreciate your reply.

Cause yours came with, I think, an EGR type of system, the 83 pup came with a vacuum tube that went to the crankcase to suck out the pressure built up by the blow by from the diesel. Yours obviously hase something like this or your tube it a little harder to find, I have a good idea on how to make a pan for it but i'm not that great of a metal fabricator....(yet....)

I modified my ’81 4x4 along time ago to sort of conform to a ’84 Isuzu diesel ( don’t remember the model name)

It basically vents into the intake manifold. I didn’t replace the intake manifold but diverted the air into the air breather through a (home made) vapor separator.

Since I haven’t figured a way to post a picture on this board, I’ll FAX you the parts diagram( from the ’84) if your are interested.

But, after I did this, I discovered a Isuzu Technical Bulletin SB84-01-001(81-83 pickups) that offers a Vent Tube Kit Part Number 5-87301-028-0 to help solve the drip problem
