So i am pulling my freakin hair out trying to figure out why my truck doesnt idle well! I have replaced points/cap/rotor. Denso iridium plugs and bosch wires. Put on a offy intake and weber carb and just made sure all exhaust was leak free. So it still pops and shit and doesnt sound right. I even put the points and tappits to specs. One thing i have noticed is that my coil gets really damn hot. Is this normal? Nebody know what else i might try?

It sounds like it may be the ballast resistor that is mounted on the coil.
I had to bypass my ballast one time and coil got really hot.
Might look into that.

As Luv parker said ck ballast resistor.

Did you change the COIL?

If running points you have to have a point type coil also. Its a higher input resistance. Dont just run out with the first COOL looking coil you see.
If coil is hot ck points again could be burnt up all ready , so you running to much current throw the points(also ck the condensor)

What yr is your truck? Single point Hitachi distributor?

Like them Accel Super coils people forget to add the extra ballast resister(add in series with stock) that comes with the coil and burn up their points by the time they get end of the street

i did replace the condensor, i did not replace the coil or ballast. It is the same old crusty lookin one that was on it when i bought the truck. It is a 79 so it has single points dizzy. Im considering going to electronic, so i dont really want to replace the coil right yet.
