Does anyone know about renters rights for an apartment, Ok lets just say that my friend has one car, this car runs and is parked in her parking space and the tags are due, now can the landlord tow this vehicle away when it has only been sitting for a couple of days, because the landlord did this today and my friend doesnt even know yet.

What does the rental contract say?
If it says that all vehicles have to be licensed, then it was within their rights to tow.
However, I do believe they still have to warn the owner of the vehicle by putting some kind of notice on the vehicle.
That's just up here where I live though.

YES! They have to give you a notice with ample time to move it. Same with vehicles parked on the highway.... The police put a sticker on it for a few days before they get towed.

Sounds like there is more to the story.
What was the infraction or the rule they are claiming the car violated?

There is no more to the story, the landlord is an old lady with nothing to do, her son is the one that owns these apartments and he is away on vacation, she gave us a notice saying that the cars that do not run need to be moved or they will be towed, but her car runs and is tagged. She cannot tow it without a three day notice. I was talking to my neighbor and he told me the same thing. It didnt violate any infraction. My friend has a kid and she is by herself with no husband. The car looks beat up because of the front fender missing but that is the only problem with it.

i know alot when it comes to apartment complexes. my mom is a manager, my stepdad works for maint., my grandma used to clean vacant apartments.

she can not tow a car right away. they must put a tow tag on the car a couple days pior to towing a car. or get in contact with the owner before it's towed. sounds like the ol bitch was having a pissy day and saw the tags were expired.

i'd say, make the old hag pay for the towing charge and parking fees. (which can get really expensive). if the tags just expired it's not a big deal, makes it even better if your buddy was out of town when they expired.

she will fight with the car owner over, especially if it's a large complex that has money, which probably means they have a good lawer. if it does come down to going to court make sure you have all the paperwork right then sue the hell out of them
