has any one put some sort of a traction bar on a luv and are they really needed? if they are needed where can they be found

Don’t waist your time with traction bars, Chang the suspension in the rear to ladder bars or 4 link. I run ladder bars with 1100 26 Mt and I pull 10:5 consistent Call art Morrison they did a great job with me

it's needed alot. you can't get traction with a 350 in a luv.

you can pick up a set for around 50 bucks at most auto stores

I found out it is all about the tires that you run. What tires are you running. I ran the M/T 26-1100 L-8 compound. They last a year and they hook good, just make sure that you bead lock them. Air at 9 # cold , that gives you about 12 after burn out.

Tabor, I run Lakewood traction bars on my '78 and I am happy with them, not to mention they only cost me $29 at Schucks. But if you are having problems keeping traction, also invest in some better tires. Mine is a street truck primarily but I have raced a couple times in the last couple weeks, I switched to 295/50/15 in the back and that helped extremely, not to mention on the street when you roast em it leaves a nicer line of rubber . If you have the money, do like IDOXLR8 said and change the suspension to 4link, you will get a little more weight (depending on the materials used to make it), but it would be made up for and surpassed by the change in the reaction the truck takes when you get off the line.

I run the same home built traction bars that ben has I coppied off of his. they work great for me. I run 11.60 I also am running slicks. I picked up the steel at a scrap metal yard. total cost for traction bars was 12.00 bucks .

just get a fat ass sticky tire like mine ( 31X16.5 - 15) mickey thompson ET Streets. I got no type of traction bars only lief springs ...... it hooks hard enough to get the left front tire up about 2 inches......

GO FAT TIRE!!!!!!!!!

I have Lakewood traction bars also, can't say they help with traction but I don't have any wheel hop while I'm doing all the spinning . And they look cool too .

If you are looking for a good street tire watch the tread wear rating on the tires. Les Shcwab sells a grand spirit tire with a tread wear of ( i think ) 180. And yes wide is good but so is weight transfer is better. You can get the worst tire to hook up if you can get the weight to move back. I am set up with 180 coils on the rear and when I was running the 26-1100 I got a good hook. I was pulling 12.25 on the grand sprits and 10.90 on the M/t Not bad for 425 horse to the rear wheels
